Fibersol-2 in Protein Blend 4 Type O

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

I was looking at Dr. D’Adamo’s new PROTEIN BLEND 4 TYPE O and since I
didn’t now what the ingredient Fibersol-2 was I decided to search for
info about it. I was surprised to find out it is made from natural
cornstarch, but can be made from different sources such as potato
starch. To be more specific Fibersol-2 is a spray-dried powder
produced by the pyrolysis and controlled enzymatic hydrolysis of
cornstarch.
I talked to NAP about Fibersol-2 and they had nothing but good things
to say about it and in fact said they had not found anything negative
about it in all the research they did on it before deciding to use it.
It has pre-biotic effect on good intestinal health:
Helps maintain healthful serum Cholesterol
Helps maintain healthful serum triglycerides
Helps maintain healthful blood glucose levels
Helps maintain healthful regular laxation

Digest Number 1735

Hey all,
I am really enjoying the variety of ways that folks like to eat particular
vegetables and greens. I am definitely looking forward to trying out Susan’s
steamed vegetable medley w/ fresh ground ginger and lemon zest.
Don,
You mentioned you like collard greens a lot ~ how do you usually fix them?
Also, about how long and at what temperature do you roast the root veggies in
olive oil? In your soup, do you brown the meat first? Do you simmer it on the
stove, or use a crockpot? What temperature, how long? What do you use for
tomato sauce? I ask because most of the store varieties I’ve seen have avoids,
at least for nonnies. Thanks for more specifics!!

Don, thanks for the tip on the sweet potato flour and trying a local ethnic
grocery. Don’t know how I was searching before having so much trouble!
Jane, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in how restaurant staff respond to my
requests for veggies instead of the potato, etc, since Atkins got so much in
the news. I love it.
Linda, I sure notice that after I indulge my cravings, they are WORSE. But they
get better the longer I go without, especially if I’m not around too much of
them. I had a hard time during the Christmas holidays at the office. So much
sugary junk food.
Susan, thanks for the ideas of what you like to eat. I’m always on the look-out
for fresh approaches.
Marjorie, I would highly recommend finding out your secretor status (available
as a spit test at www.dadamo.com) and getting your hands on the book Live Right
4 Your Type. It has portion frequencies by secretor status, and some food
values change depending on secretor status. Glad you found us!

Axel, great links!
Tom, fava beans are listed as avoid for non-secretors on TYPEbase ~ does the
book address this seeming inconsistency for non-secretors? maybe fava beans are
only good for secretors?
Coryn, just FYI, green beans (and peas) are considered from the bean category
not from the vegetable category, if you look at ratios. My favorite way to eat
greens is called blanching. Basically dipping them into boiling water for a few
seconds until they turn bright green. You can leave them in a bit longer (up to
a minute or two) if you want them less crunchy, more soft/wilted. Blanching
removes the “bitter” taste. Then they can be cooked additionally if you want
additional flavoring. I like them more crunchy and use them as salad greens. I
notice that I want more protein (and food in general) right before and during
my period as well! I also wanted to send support and encouragement with working
through the anxiety attacks while exercising. Exercise stressed me out
emotionally for a long time, still does sometimes. I gained weight (120lbs) for

word on the new bars?

Stems

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

Does anybody know if collard green stems are nutritionally worth
eating? I don’t mind eating the stems, but if they don’t offer much
nutritional value I might prefer to fill up on the better things.
I remember reading many years ago that broccoli stems are just as
nutritious as the head and that is what got me thinking about collard
green stems.

<<I have done 3 liver flushes over the past 6 weeks and am still getting stones
out each time.
Don,
What exact recipe have you been using for your flushes? How functional were you
the next day?
I’ve been wanting to do it for months, but I’m concerned that I’ll be totally
out of commission the next day and I just don’t have any totally free days.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated,
Dianne in L.A.

Salad vinegar

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Ida,
Go ahead and indulge your apple cider vinegar, especially if it is raw,
unprocessed and has the mother in it. It is neutral for secretors, but still an
avoid for non-secretors. If you are a N/S, then sorry, only lime/lemon juice
for you (and you can squirt it on avocados, you lucky person!).
Jannette

Facing the decision “to tell or not to tell” your loved one about
the diagnosis

Our physician feels my husband has Alzheimer’s disease. He is
unaware that his memory is failing. Should we tell him?
Some caregivers opt to tell their loved ones the truth:
One caregiver’s her experience with honesty:
My husband and I never kept secrets from one another. I requested
that the physician share the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and
how it will impact both of our lives. He truly appreciated the fact
that I upheld our vow of honesty.
After careful thought and with much hesitation, I asked our Rabbi to
assist me in telling my wife that she had Alzheimer’s disease. She
