raw garlic & coffee, candida

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Linda D ~ coffee is an avoid for all type O so I wouldn’t recommend that one
for counteracting the odor of raw garlic :-) I have been struggling with chronic vaginal yeast infections so I believe our
situations have some things in common. D’Adamo’s Encyclopedia does have
information regarding systemic candida and I would recommend at least getting
it out of the library. Heidi has written quite a bit in her On The Diet column
at www.dadamo.com which I would recommend as well. I am focusing on: high
compliance with the diet, with special focus on organic, grass-fed meats, plus
dark leafy greens, plus other highly beneficial foods. If you don’t know your
secretor status yet, I’d recommend getting tested for that (saliva test
available in the store at www.dadamo.com). Live Right 4 Your Type has really
helpful information about how often to eat various food groups and I eat almost
no grain and beans in compliance with that (I’m a non-secretor, but even
secretors are recommended to eat very little of these two groups). Also, I take
PolyFlora O probiotic (I believe it’s available at Thomas’s

Just a quick “thank you” to Don & Max for sharing how they cook their greens.

Pan-fried kelp

Friday, June 15th, 2007

I was looking for a new way to eat kelp when I decided to try pan-
frying some. I soaked the dried kelp in water first, then I fried it
in a skillet with some butter.
It was great!

This was such a great idea, hon. And the new page loads really fast, too.
Thanks again for creating this!!! Paulita :-D

Buying directly from a farm

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

I found a farm that is probably a 30-45 minute drive from my home
that specializes in pastured chickens and turkeys, eggs from free-
range hens, as well as grassfed beef and lamb. The animals are also
supposed to be free of antibiotics, growth hormones, and medications.
Does anyone have any experience buying directly from a farm? What
can I expect? What should I ask? What about pricing?
Thanks,
Don

yay, Christine!

Ligament Repair

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Is there anything an O can take to help damaged ligaments repair
themselves?

Tom, I echo Michael’s comment to drink LOTS of water. It helps me stay alert,
stop often, and helps combat travel-lag, easy to get when dehydrated at all. I
also notice that if I’m too warm I get sleepy. Safe travels! Paulita
Re. protocols & supps . . . I seem to recall Heidi saying on OTD (On The Diet
column @ www.dadamo.com) that most protocols were appropriate for 4-6 weeks (I
think all the protocols give time duration recommendations in the Encyclopedia)
and then should be set aside for a time before restarting.
My sense is that the O diet is awesome for O children. When I have my kidlings,
I’m going to get their secretor status tested asap, so I have that info as
well. There are lots of other good sources of calcium other than dairy and if
yours are secretors, there’s still mozzarella a couple times a week. A mineral
supplement including calcium is pretty highly recommended for all O women by
Dr. D if I am remembering correctly, and I would be interested in what
calcium/mineral supp would be appropriate for O kids. If they still crave their
favorites, how about almond butter & jam sandwiches on Ezekial bread, homemade

Cindy, your list looks like secretor beneficials, which I’m not quite as
familiar with as a nonnie. I would cross-reference against TYPEbase on
www.dadamo.com to double-check that no values have changed.
Awwww, Max, brownies with a sweet personality . . . ! ::blush::
You know, I have not tried the sweet potato brownies. I’ll be interested if any
of you secretors try them out and like them, or modify them to the point that
you like them. We nonnies sometimes develop some tolerance and appreciation for
some odd tasting things, I think! lol. I somehow am very sensitive to ALL
sweeteners, including veggie glycerine (at least the brand I have tried so far,
NOW). I ordered another brand Starwest that another very sensitive O nonnie
found worked for her, but have yet to try it.
Some ideas for grass-fed beef that is very low in fat so that it’s not
tough. . . saute’/fry/grill in olive oil or other beneficial oil on the stove
to help keep it from drying out . . . marinate before cooking . . . cook roasts
and stews with plenty of water for a long time at low temps (overnight in a
