veggie thoughts

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

i have to say i think people are missing one of the points of being a
vegetarians.
i am not Buddhist, and until recently, i ate meat. i may again, i don’t know.
while it is true that it is natural for humans to eat meat, and animals eat
other animals, i do not believe that animals exist solely for our consumption.
they are a part of the circle of life and should be treated as such.
i ate meat when i joined this group, but some of your the blissed out carnality,
the complete disregard that you are eating an animal that lived and breathed
before you decided to consume it, disgusted me enough to try to be a vegetarian.
because of the meat “industry”, these animals are grown solely to eat, and we
seem to think, in all of our arrogance, that they are just another product to
consume. if you go out, and hunt your meat (ie kill an animal one at a time vs.
by the thousands) i say great! eat away. that’s why we have incisors.
since some of the meat eaters in this forum are so informed i am sure you all
have read “fast food nation” and other books describing the suffering of the

off diet response

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Thanks to all the information on this list (thank you, all!) I’ve been
on the O diet for 3 weeks now (not long, I know!) and for the past 2 1/2
weeks I’ve been about 90% plus in avoiding both Tier 1 and Tier 2
avoids, including MSG, dextrose, etc…. I’ve also been trying to
increase beneficials (still have a way to go to up the veggies and
fruits vs. grains but my diet’s slowly improving!)… Anyway, things
were going well after the initial challenge of balancing a new set of
foods…
Last night due to social obligations, I ended up having pizza (ham,
cheese, the whole shebang…). I had immediate mouth/gum/tongue
reactions to what I suspect was MSG in the pizza but I also had a couple
hives and today I’m achy and exhausted. Is that typical when you put
something back in your diet that shouldn’t be there? Could the hives be
in response to the food, or something else? (I suspect I’m developing
a latex allergy and someone blew up a balloon where we were — I’d much

Posting recipes with avoids

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

I thought we aren’t supposed to have *Worchestershire sauce? Why are recipes
being posted with avoids in them? I noticed that with a recipe with oranges in
it that someone posted about a month ago. People who are new or are just
learning might not know to substitute ingredients. Please don’t post recipes
with avoids in them. Please feel free to edit them with acceptable ingredients
and THEN post them. Don’t leave that up to us. Some of us might not know any
different.
Thanks!!
Coryn
*In reference to Worchestershire in the black bean recipe.

Washington

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

3 of us from Washington? Regina, and Coryn,, you’re not far in Tacoma!
well, so much for that snow,,, it’s almost completely gone but it was fun while
it lasted!
Question on juice pasturization which I’m learning about since Larry’s Market
closed down their juice bar due to the insurance for non-pasturized juice
selling. Does pasturization kill the good enzymes and nutrients or are some
saved? Any comments?! Love, Leslie

Thanks — breakfast and snack ideas

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Thanks for all your great suggestions. It makes me hungry just reading
them!
Out of curiosity, how long does it take to not crave your old eating
habits? We went through a fast food drive through for my son yesterday
and the smell was so good and the urge to get that diet pop was huge…
But I successfully did it by grabbing my canned seltzer and popping in
trail mix…

Snack and breakfast ideas

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Hi! Thought I’d introduce myself and then ask for some ideas.
I turned 40 this year and, as some predicted, my body started “falling
apart” — just weird things, including gum/tongue problems, increased
allergies, sleeping challenges, weight gain, etc… To try to reclaim
my body, I decided that something has to happen and the ER4YT diet
really seemed to make sense. So, I started slowly about a week ago,
just to see how major a lifestyle change this would be… MAJOR! I
didn’t realize that wheat and corn (usually with sugar and often laced
with MSG) had pretty well taken over my diet. Right now I’m aiming for
an initial 90% compliance — focusing on removing wheat, corn, dairy,
MSG, aspartame and then trying to increase the beneficials. I’ve cut
down from 1 cup of coffee in the morning to 1/2 before going “cold
turkey” …
My challenge is what to do for protein snacks/lunch on-the-run and
breakfast (at home).
