substituting spelt

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

My birthday is coming up, and I thought I would bake a cake of which I could
eat a few bites, to satisfy my family who want to celebrate with me.
When substituting spelt for wheat, do you use cup for cup? I thought I had
saved some recipes that were recently posted, but I can’t find them. I can just
create something neutral, if I know the basic proportions. I have both white and
whole spelt flour.

Omega 3 Emulsion

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

I have been using a product from Twin Lab, the Dale Alexander Emulsified Omega 3
Fish Oil. I think I have read conflicting information about whether this is
o.k. for us O’s. I really don’t want to stop using it, as I just bought two
bottles through my co-op this very day!
If it is an avoid, why?

How do you avoid the rough teeth effect of eating cooked greens?

ground beef jerky

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

<< So, if I don’t have one of these machines but still want to make the
ground
beef jerky, do I just squish it in a line or what? Does it hold together?
Using a rolling pin, flatten the meat mixture between two sheets of waxed
paper to cookie sheet size. Dry in the oven, on cookie sheets, at 150 until dry
enough to cut into strips. Then finish in the dehydrator.
And make way more than you think you’ll need as it disappears fast!

corn everywhere

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Wow–I just saw this list which Thomas posted on Food For Your Blood! I didn’t
dream….
Maybe some other newbies also didn’t know, so I post.
–Gretchen
Baking powder (the starch in common baking powder is corn starch)
Caramel color (often made from corn syrup)
Confectioners sugar (often has corn starch added to it to prevent it from
sticking)
Corn (fresh, canned, frozen, dried)
Cornmeal (as in corn bread, corn muffins, corn chips)
Corn oil (this may be fine as little or no corn protein, which is the allergic
part of the corn, is contained in it)
Cornstarch
Corn syrup
Dextrin
(more…)

was it a disaster?

Shirley, have you recovered from your binge of last week?

xylitol

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Was it on this list that someone gave a recipe for walnut snacks prepared
with cocoa powder and xylitol? I have never heard of using xylitol; why would
you use it instead of table sugar?
Oh, also, I would like that recipe again for the chocolate walnuts, if
anyone has it! Thanks a lot.

avoids for all types

Monday, August 13th, 2007

What is it about pork that Dr. D says it’s an avoid for all blood groups? I
notice that pepper is also bad for all….are there other plain foods that are
on the total blacklist?

intro from Gretchen

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

I wrote a short intro when I first joined this group last week, but it took
a few days for my posts to start coming through, so I don’t think you all saw
it….
I’m in northern California, a wife and homemaker/homeschooler with five
mostly-grown children. I first tried the BTD about six years ago, but it was
terribly inconvenient when for a while we had ten people to cook for. Recently I
have tendonitis in my elbow that will not heal (5 months), and I started
thinking there might be a dietary factor in the inflammation.
I feel much better, generally, since changing my diet over the last week; I
wonder how long it might take for joint inflammation to heal?
Thank you all for being here; I am really enjoying the discussions.

Hi, all,
I have been aware of the truth of the blood type diet for many years, but am
just now renewing my commitment to eat right, because I can’t get rid of elbow
tendonitis. If anyone else has had a related experience, with joint
inflammation, I’d be glad to hear about it. I’ve read only ER4YT but have
ordered LR from the library.
I’m a wife and homeschooling mother, 53 yrs old. Love reading, cooking,
gardening.
So happy to be on this list!
