Do you know someone who has moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease?
If so, now is the time to consider participation in a clinical trial
that may play an important role in providing a better treatment
option.
What information can you provide about the Neramexane Study?
Neramexane is an investigational drug in development in the United
States by Forest Laboratories for the treatment of moderate to
severe Alzheimer’s disease. This study will investigate whether
Neramexane can lessen the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and improve
patients’ abilities to understand and retain information and perform
daily tasks.

another lovely day on the planet!

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Greetings fellow O’s……
Today was another lovely day on the planet for me….a very “O” sort of day. My
3rd consecutive day without coffee! and tragically I must report that I am
feeling much better without it. I am basically an addictive person and am
currently searching for an acceptable addiction to replace my former love…any
suggestions? Regretfully, although sex would be a good candidate, alas it not
possible in my little slice of reality. Water is good…I have been drinking so
much more without the coffee! Carrots and almond butter have potential (probably
not a good combo?) and I never seem to tire of the local elk jerky and salmon
bellies….guess I’ll have to give this some serious thought…one must choose
one’s addictions carefully!
Working on this large pond today and moving those 600 -1000 lb. boulders again
(by hand), down the sides of the pond. I’m happy to report no injuries and that
hernia-like injury seems to have healed seamlessly….I seem to be immortal once
again.

Lyme disease protocol?

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Hi All,
I am fairly certain that I have Lyme disease and have had it for six weeks -
long story! I am in the process of finding a doctor who knows what it is and
how to treat it, but I have been wondering if there is a protocol in the
Encyclopedia for it? I own one but haven’t seen it since my move. I believe it
was returned by a borrower just before things were packed, and it is packed
somewhere unexpected (at least I hope it is here somewhere!).
In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate any info any of you can send: a
protocol (if available) for O’s with Lyme, your own experience, etc. If I am
prescribed the four or so weeks of antibiotics which seems to be the standard
treatment, is there anything I should take besides the O Probiotic? Do you
happen to know of a great doctor with experience with Lyme who is within the
general SE PA area?
Any recommendations, etc. will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all,

Thomas-weight loss Atkins diet

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Thomas,
I meant to answer this before–but I had to find my old calendar
first. When I did a very strict Atkins induction program for 5 months
I lost 20% of my total body weight. I was not looking at body fat %
at the time, so I cannot answer your question. Of course I lost a lot
of water, some real fat, and some muscle. I am an apple so most of my
inches came off of my body trunk (lost 26 inches total, 19 from body
trunk). So I did very well even though I ate dairy every day (I am a
non-secretor too!)–I grew up on dairy and my ancestors ate alot of
it so perhaps my body can handle it better than others–but I am not
speaking about the lectin effects. I’m guessing that the approach no
longer works for me because of too much dairy lectin exposure.
I kept the weight off for 3 years and then went through a bad spell
of a serious break- up, repeated moving, and joblessness which made 2
six packs of beer a week and ice cream my best friends/worst enemies.

lectin research question

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Can I ask people to provide some input? I have researched lectins a
bit (certainly not enough to claim to be an expert) and I have been
running into sources that say that most lectins are not blood type
specific. This is in scientific articles–not from diet gurus. Has
anyone out there run into this too? My little brain is churning
because a lot of what I have read indicates that grains (wheat,
quinoa, rice, buckwheat, oats, rye, barley, millet and corn), all
legumes, dairy, and the nightshade family (includes potato, tomato,
eggplant and pepper) have lectins that agglutinate with every blood
type. The only things that I saw in the literature that I check out
that were blood type specific (always blood type A) were Elderberry,
Jerusalem Artichoke, Lima Bean, and Snail.
I can send a list of sources that I have been reviewing. One summary
article by a clinical nutritionalist in California (that is where I
found out about some of the science journal articles) says that Dr.

Dr. D’Adamo on Thomas’ Bulletin Board?

Okay, I’m blind. I went and looked, even searched for his number
and didn’t see a single note from him.

coconut milk

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Hi all:
Does anybody have any more specific info regarding coconut milk and
oil and how it affects us O’s? I was really getting into using it in
curry dishes but wasn’t feeling too great. Then I started thinking
about the D’adamo -lectin theory and looked at what I was eating from
the “avoid” list (:coconut milk, avocado, peanuts). So, as hard as it
is to cut out these foods (plus, I’m trying to gain weight), I’ve
stopped eating coconut and peanuts, and seem to be feeling better.
And my GI tract seems to be functioning better too (if you know what
I mean)..
Any comments appreciated!

strength training

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Question on weight training Thomas! in one of your responses you mentioned
exercising daily w/ weights. The Curves people say that when you strength
train (I’m guessing they’re the same thing), you should take a day off between
workouts to allow your muscles time to fully recover… but it sounds
like everyday aerobics is fine… any thoughts?
thanks! Leslie
