Thomas-weight loss Atkins diet
Thomas,
I meant to answer this before–but I had to find my old calendar
first. When I did a very strict Atkins induction program for 5 months
I lost 20% of my total body weight. I was not looking at body fat %
at the time, so I cannot answer your question. Of course I lost a lot
of water, some real fat, and some muscle. I am an apple so most of my
inches came off of my body trunk (lost 26 inches total, 19 from body
trunk). So I did very well even though I ate dairy every day (I am a
non-secretor too!)–I grew up on dairy and my ancestors ate alot of
it so perhaps my body can handle it better than others–but I am not
speaking about the lectin effects. I’m guessing that the approach no
longer works for me because of too much dairy lectin exposure.
I kept the weight off for 3 years and then went through a bad spell
of a serious break- up, repeated moving, and joblessness which made 2
six packs of beer a week and ice cream my best friends/worst enemies.
I stopped taking care of myself and rested on my laurels of past
exercise and nutritious eating and put all of my weight back on in 6
months. My metabolism is extra terrible now–so much worse for years
of being fit and healthy and then not exercising and eating all wrong
and becoming obese. I was weak and used crappy excuses (okay, a death
wish would be more accurate)–but now as a mature 30 something I am
finally committed to getting it right for a lifetime no matter how
much work it takes. And it takes so much work–good thing I know that
I can do it and have done it before. So this should explain why I am
contemplating carb-cycling in addition to my Body for Life program
(although I switched to 40 minutes of daily cardio 2 weeks ago to
speed up the process–so that is beyond Bill’s recommendations).
Progress is slower than it has ever been in my life–but at least
Atkins is no longer an attractive option for me. As I said in
previous posts I tried to achieve results with Atkins over and over
again since it had once proven so successful–but all the subsequent
attempts at success failed. So I decided to pull out my BTD books
again and get a secretor test–and of course I did not like what I
saw. Being a non-secretor means greater health risks and more
restricted eating–so I gradually eased into it and gave all my
avoids away. I am still not seeing the health results that I want–
but that might be due to Candida and Leaky Gut which I am currently
working on.
That should be more that you wanted to know–sorry, I tend to do
that.
