HiAll:
I have a somewhat sensitive question.
ER4YT-O has worked wonders for my now-gone IBS but it has caused me to have
a chronic case of
gas and flatulence (yeesh, I hate to admit this!!!). Obviously, my G-I
tract is still a bit messed up.
I never had chronic gas before I started this diet.
In any case, my naturopath suggested that I take fiber pills 2 in the
morning, 2 at night with lots of water. I tried that and it caused me to
have more and painful gas. So I gave them up. I still take peppermint oil
pills (nature’s way) and do use peppermint and/or licorice tea but it does
not really seem to help.
At present I put together a trail mix bag of fibrous fruits, prunes, figs,
apricots, dates, and nuts. That and my banana form my breakfast. When I do
have bread fiber (spelt or rice), my gas gets less but it is still there. I
am trying to give up grains all together but my stomach is letting me know
this is not what IT wants.
In any case, I’d like to give up grains, I have a lot more energy when I
do. Does anyone on this list take fiber pills that they would recommend
that do not cause complications. I’ve read that fiber pills with psyllium
are prone to cause gas, but then again I am not sure. I could try powders
and pills till the cows come home but it would be expensive and a waste of
my time and resources. So I’m throwing out to this list.
If you have any suggestions, I’d be grateful for any.
This is the last hurdle I have to jump to make the O-Type diet work for me.
Thanks much for your help in advance. I value everyone’s opinion very much,
Allison

One suggestion when you’re at the grocery, just move quickly to the next
aisle and blame some old guy. That’s what I do. The really tough one to work
through is when I’m on the treadmill at the gym. I’m a little trapped there and
most of the people are younger than me.
I avoid fiber pills and psyllium seed products–they create gas in
me, plus stomach cramping & the runs. I agree with what another
person said–flax seeds are a better way to go. Just 2 T. twice a day
should do it for you. I am about to embark on a Candida cleanse and
my doctor suggested using bentonite clay mixed with flax in order to
cleanse the bowels and remove dying yeast (I’ll be using an anti-
fungal yeast killer). I bring this up because yeast problems have
plagued me and I find that my gas is much worse when my Candida is
not kept in check. Got to keep those probiotics up, eat tons of
garlic, and sooth the stomach and bowels with ginger. The thing that
truly gets me is mixing proteins and fruit–I just cannot do it. Gas
and the runs follow and that just saps energy and lets food sit in
your digestive track too long. If I were you I would make you not to
eat fruit too close to protein. Lastly, I find that baking soda in
water really does help break up gas bubbles. I read about this on the
side of the baking soda box about 15 years ago and I do find that it
works. It makes me burp and breaks up gas bubbles. I find that I may
need to do it 2-3 times in one hour to really break up the gas. I use
about 1 t. per glass. This might help you too.

Would like to try this as it would be really healthy…but…before I
invest in more flax items the question is this. Does flax prepared
this way taste anything like flax oil which I thoroughly detest?
What time of day would be best for this?
Thanks
Toni

You might try eating some ready protein even if it’s a warmed over hamburger
patty. Doesn’t all of that sugar give you a buzz or an upset stomach?
Wow, Katchy:
That is a huge amount of info to absorb (pun intended!!)
I am actually having a series of tests done this month to determine the
bacteria living my in G-I tract and see if there is anything way out of
balance.
I’ve definately taken your avdvice to heart about not mixing fruit with
protein and that has helped a bunch.
I’ll give to book a look into — I think it could definitely help me in my
understanding of things. I can honestly say one thing. It looks like
digestive enzymes are in my future and that it looks as if drinking water
with fibrous fruit is not the best choice to make.
The other thing is to certainly give a few hours between a meal and fruit
and the fruit goes right through and if present with protein will tend to
ferment.
Again, thanks much for your input. It is a real help,
Katchy:
Thanks for your comments.
There are more investigations to do.
And they will get done.
You are correct. Some people are good for the simple, and some people are not.
It always helps to be armed with as much information as you can gather!!

Hi, Katchy and Thomas!
Thank you both very much for your explanations of food
intolerances/allergies, food choosing, and gas. They were very helpful to
me. I have noticed that sometimes I can eat the same foods and feel great
and sometimes feel lousy. I think attitude is part of the equation. When
I am laughing a lot at a meal, I can eat in peace some foods that I cannot
eat when I am eating alone or in stressful circumstances.
I am going to the library tomorrow to put in an InterLibrary Loan request
for The Ultimate Healing System. It sounds like a good book. Thanks for
the suggestion, Thomas.
