Julie, about the barfing….
Please don’t be too concerned about someone making the jokes here. We get a
little punchy sometimes, but it’s not personal. This really is a fantastic
group. I’ve been on this list about 4 years, and have learned such valuable and
helpful information.
I really would like to add to the discussion that might help you, so here are
my thoughts (I confess up front, I am an avowed carnivore. Even before I
knew of ER4YT, I would steal raw hamburger when making burgers, and eat it all
up).
First of all, I am wondering if the “barfing” reaction to meat is
psychological. Are you a person who feels strongly about the ethics of animals
as a food
source for humans, or do you perhaps have extreme discomfort with information
you have seen/read about the way our food source animals are treated and
slaughtered? Are you by chance a person who is more than just an “animal
lover”,
but who really feels connected to animals? I must say, this reaction you
describe sounds like there could be an emotional component. This is not a
statement from me that is intended in any way to invalidate your situation. I
am
only trying to understand the root cause, and hopefully you can shed some light
for me.
You also mentioned meat “tastes like blood”. That leads to my Martha Stewart
cooking lesson for the day (sorry dear, no hot stock tips included: that’s
illegal!) Normally, the more “rare” a piece of meat is, the more it will taste
“bloody”, “gamey” etc. So, how are you preparing your meats? Do you think
they are cooked sufficiently to your liking?
Another thing related to the way you are preparing your meats: Are you using
any spices? You may need to use flavorings that are strong and pungent, such
as curries. I suggest looking into Mexican, Indian, Thai and Carribean
spice/herb combos, and don’t forget New Orleans “Creole” and “Cajun”. How are
you
with hot peppers? My husband is not a big fan of meat, but he is an O, and we
have found he will eat anything if it turns him into a fire-breathing dragon.
He is addicted to hot peppers. So, have you tried any of these?
Please let us know how any of my ideas may pertain to you, as it will give us
a better idea of how to assist you. I’ve been on this eating/health plan for
four years. I lost 25 pounds I’d been carrying around since adolescence (I’m
now a young, vibrant 45, if I may say so myself). My skin and hair problems
cleared up. Can you imagine, at my age, I now get complimented on how lovely
and youthful my skin and hair are looking, and everyone thinks I’m 30. My
digestive issues such as bloating, stomach distension, and chronic bouts of
constipation are all gone, and even my chronic depression and mood swings went
away.
So, it’s worth it to find a way to make this work. Give us a chance to help
you, and don’t mind our humor, which may be rough around the edges.
Good luck to you and write back to us soon.
