GRAIN V. GRASS-FED BEEF

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

I have heard that MD are recommending taking children off of milk from our
dairy cows because the hormones that the cows are fed are contributing to
the early puberty that the girls are going through. So they are recommending
milk from cows that have had no hormones.

high blood sugar and fats

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

I wanted to raise this issue and hear how you all approach this.
Here are my assumptions:
1. Simplistically Omega 6 fats are bad and Omega 3 fats are good
2. There are two kinds of beef, Grass-feed and Grain-fed
3. Grain-fed has a ratio much higher in Omega 6 than Omega 3
4. Grass fed has a ratio higher in Omega 3 than Omega 6
5. Dr. D’Adamo recommends Grass-fed beef
How many of you actually eat Grass-fed beef and how many feel forced to buy
grain-fed beef?
I tend to think most people still eat Grain-fed beef without realizing the
negatives. I think throughout history beef has always been grass-fed
because it only made sense. When men discovered that cattle can be fattened
quickly for market by being fed grain I guess the ability to make money took
over to the point that unless you can afford it, you have to buy grain-fed
beef.

moisturizers etc.

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Hi O’s! are there any suggestions for face/skin moisturizers,
shampoos/conditioners that are O friendly or just plain good?! know there’s
debate on
whether “avoids” go through the pores or not … I personally like to avoid
wheat ingredients and aloe.
prefer homemade if anyone has any good recipes ! thanks much! Leslie

weight loss and exercise

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

O’s need intense exercise, red meat, seafood, and green leafy veggies to lose
weight. Prior to running, I was standing/walking all day as a teacher, ~3 years,
then walking the dog at least once a day for 30-40 minutes, with the occassional
bike ride, treadmill or dance class, and some lite weight lifting. I see that
my hip-to-waist ratio, is lower, (and my weight,) when I run and just eat meat
and greens; in fact, back in 1997, when I first found ER4YT, I reversed my
hypothyroidism by just eating Dr. D’s meat and veggies. Judy O+ secretor

Allergy testing

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Does anyone recall what Dr. D’Adamo has said on allergy testing…
that is, aside from dietary elimination, what are some reliable ways
(hopefully inexpensive) to verify whether you’re allergic to a
certain food or not?
Does blood agglutinate whenever in presence of an allergen, vs. just
when in presence of a lectin?
Years ago I’d had a ‘cytotoxic allergy test’ that tests the blood
against a variety of foods and reports back in the manner of +1, +3,
etc., as to which foods you’re supposedly allergic to. This test is
panned in the mainstream and beyond that noted as having quite a few
false positives.
What was interesting to me was that it pegged some things very
well… corn and wheat allergies (and I’m an O), as well as
aspergillus (I get the creeps around molds and fungi anyway), and
surprisingly, beef. (Milk tested as not really, really allergenic to

Lexapro

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

came out in September. Its made by Forrest Pharma.
Its the part of the Celexa that was the active ingredient. It does not have
all the side affects of Paxil, etc. The only thing that bothered me was the
nausea until I had the correct does, but this is not a problem for everyone.
I had severe anxiety attacks, I guess a side affect of the hypo-
Hashimotos. The adrenals and the chemicals in your brain get allout of whack
when your thyroid is sluggish. Anyway, Lexapro has resolved this issue. My
doctor says I can get off it any time I want, unlike the Paxil when the
attacks can come back with a venegeance. Its a matter of getting these
chemicals back to normal. I am also on CoQ10, which in my humble opinion has
been great for me. NIH studies have proven it works on a cellular level. I
am also taking 3 TBS of Virgin coconut oil aday mixed n a fruit smoothie. I
apply it to the dry skin you get with this thyroid as well, I have to tell
you, its made a big difference for me. My appetite is subsiding, which for
me, even after 7 months on ER4YBT i havent lost an ounce. Ithink ER4YBT is

Drowsy

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Janine, I am glad you mentioned this. I too get terribly drowsy. I walk 45 min a
day. I am pretty compliant, but the drowsiness is terrible., Sometimes its in
the middle of the day, sometimes, right after I get up, alot at nite around 6- 7
PM. I feel the need to get in bed! I am hypothyroid and on synthroid and lexapro
for the side affects of the thyroid. I was sleeping great, untl the last 2
nites. I have no clue what the problem is.
I make it a point to eat protein, chicken salad for lunch yesterday and grilled
chicken for dinner, both with a side of fruit. I am also still gaining weight,
havent lost a pound in the 7 months or so I have been on ER4YBT.
Any ideas anyone?

difference in books

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Coryn and all: The paperback book is good if you don’t know your secretor
status, but if you know it, you should use “Live Right 4 Your Type” or the
Encyclopedia, or the database on Dr. D’s website to determine if a food is ok
for you or not. O secretors can have strawberries, but not non-secretors. Also,
years ago, when my husband mistakenly bought sprouted wheat bread, the label
said gluten. I didn’t realize that until my teenage daughter woke up in the
middle of the night screaming in pain and had messed her pants in bed. Then in
trying to figure out what had caused it, we looked at the label. It was the only
new thing she’d eaten. Gluten is a powerful class of lectins for O’s. We only
buy Ezekiel, now; I don’t touch bread at all, (makes my blood sugar go too high,
and I REALLY gain weight when I eat it,) she usually takes 1 serving for lunch
on school days. Judy

high blood sugar

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Hi! I’m Judy, a 51 yr. old O+ Sec. 5′9″, 165 #; diagnosed with diabetes 5/99.
Been 99.9% compliant on ER4YT since 5/7/03. Started running 3-4 x a week, (~ 1
hr.) on 5/14/03. Was feeling good up until yesterday, then VERY drowsey/sleepy,
and very tired legs when ran yesterday, and more fatigue and sore/stiff today.
Blood sugar was also high 6/1-6/2. How does one find the right mix of
protein/carbs to have enough energy to exercise, but not have high blood sugar.
Or is there something else I’m missing? Thanks for your help…-Judy
