protein amts

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

I was wondering if any of you could give me the minimum amts of veggies for 0-.
I know that it is in the books, but I borrowed mine from the library and have
had to return them
Also, it has been difficult for me to eat the amt of protein that Thomas says is
necessary and have much room for much else. I have always believed in only eat
when I am hungry, but in order to fulfill the protein requirement, I am eating
even if I am not hungry. Yes, I know that the first thing to go to make room for
the protein is the grains. I have done this. Even if I stick to protein,
veggies, fruit and water only, I can not seem to meet the requirement w/o being
stuffed.
Also, I have noticed that I am not going to the bathroom as regularly as I use
to. I do not have problems when I do go, but I am not going as often. Like once
every other day, sometimes every third day. Everything I have ever studied
stated that you should go at least once a day. Any comments.

Carb Addiction

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

I can totally relate, Erica! I went on Atkins induction, which cut my
cravings. It has been 21/2 months that I have not touched refined carbs - no
wheat, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc. I am afraid to touch it as I might
slip back to the addiction. I eat lots of meat/fish/eggs and lots of
salads/broccoli/asparagus/spinach, etc. I have lost 12 lbs too!

I’m a Type O, carb addict. It seems not matter how much I eat — if I
don’t have carbs with my meal I am left unsatisfied and with a headache
(I’ll also get a headache an hour or so after eating pasta or such). I’d
really like to get away from carbs, but am nervous to get started as I know
I’ll be a miserable person to be around for a week or two.

Yes, you get off of it for 2 weeks and then drink some and see how sick you
get. It doesn’t affect you because your body has adjusted to it. It’s still
just as damaging.

Heidi’s advice for carb addicts

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

I also found this advice in Heidi’s column:
Other factors come into play. There is always an adjustment period involved
if this diet is a big change from your former one. At first, you may
experience hefty cravings for the grains and sugar you’ve eliminated from
your diet. Not only your liver and insulin functions, but your very brain
chemistry, changes in response to this kind of dietary upheaval. Smile!
Feeling lousy is a sign that the adjustments have begun, and sticking to the
diet means you won’t have to go through them again. The best approach is to
fill up on protein, perhaps more than the suggested amounts, and fill in
with vegetables ~ this is perfectly OK, and is your body’s way of treating
itself to the healing and rebuilding power of what it needed that it hadn’t
been getting. Over a few months’ time, most Os find their appetite for meat
settles at a more moderate level.
Vegetable glycerine, widely available in health food stores, has beneficial
effects upon our ability to release energy from the food we eat, and can be

Carbohydrate Addict

<<According to my chiropractor if I can stay away from carbs for a couple
weeks and endure the pain, I can reverse the cravings, etc.
Thank, Erica
It’s true, the longer you stay away from them, the easier it becomes. If
you’re having a craving for carbs, eat more protein.
There are also some supplements that are supposed to reduce carb cravings
such as 5-HTP, but I haven’t had experience with them. Hopefully someone
else can chime in…
Good luck,

Does anyone have info on Herpes therapy for O. Also I started taking
a supplement called monolaurin, It really doesnt seem to work and I
have been on it for a month. It is derived from the coconut wich is a
big no for Os. It is sold as a remedy for herpes. I think I have had
more outbreaks since starting it also Im on psyllium for my liver
which is also a no. Any Ideas would be of great help.

Breakfast was delicious

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Ok - I’m getting more used to this list of acceptable and non-
acceptable foods. This morning I had 2 slices of Sesame Ezekial
bread that I got at the health food store last night. THis bread was
delicious!!! I noticed that it comes in Cinnamon Raisin flavor and
Original flavor also. We got some green tea also. This is my first
experience with green tea. I bought Good Earth Brand. Do they
basically all taste the same? It was good too but I do have to say
I missed my coffee. I only have one cup per day but I do love that
one cup. We’ll deal though. I’m still working on hubby to at least
try the Type 0 diet but he’s not budging. Oh well - so I’ll lose
weight and feel better. It works for me!!!!!!

Flaxseed Overdose

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

I was just reading the book “The Omega-3 Connection” by Andrew L.
Stoll, M.D., that I got from the library a few days ago, and it
recommends not consuming more than 2 to 3 Tbsp. of flaxseed or
flaxmeal per day because the seed husks contain naturally occurring
cyanogenic nitrates and linamarin, which can be toxic in higher
doses. The cyanogenic nitrates interfere with the thyroid gland’s
ability to take up iodine and may lead to goiter or other thyroid
problems. Immature seeds contain higher amounts of cyanogenic
nitrates and glucosides and are more dangerous. Flaxseeds also
contain lignans, which have mild estrogenic, antiestrogenic, and
steroidlike activity. These problems are not present with flaxseed
oil.
Makes me wonder if I should stop using flaxseed completely until my
thyroid and adrenal functions return to normal?
Comments or thoughts?
