Oriental Grocery Store

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I stopped in at an oriental grocery store today to look around and
see what they might have that I could add to my pantry and diet.
They had lots of seaweed, canned and dried fish, different kinds of
noodles, etc. Unfortunately, a lot of the food was not labeled in
English. I plan to go back again when I have more time to look
around and maybe get some help.
I did find one interesting and tasty snack treat, steamed and dried
sweet potato slices. They are chewy, moist, and have a great sweet
potato flavor. I will definitely buy more of these!
Anybody have any ideas of things I should look for?

question about high protein

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Hi Mary,
Not one of guys you mentioned, but I have been eating this way for four
years. I eat protein at every meal, often steak for breakfast. Just
received Blood Chemistry tests back and NO problem with my kidneys!

I think someone on this list is from here. I am as well and just wondered where
you do your food shopping mostly. I have been using Whole Foods for most of
mine and find that they have a great selection.

Woo-hoo! I’m so glad I found you!

Welcome Susan,
This is a great home for support.
I only have “internet” Type-O friends.
Nobody believes to follow this way of eating within my immediate
contact of family or friends. But they, at least, follow my wishes
after 2 yrs of saying so….hehe.
It is a great “diet” for your health,

CHANGE OF LIFE

Friday, October 20th, 2006

I think I am going thru a change of life, mainly,
’cause…….
I don’t feel like eating out as much.
Foods not that great, ” out there “.
I don’t feel like I have to make an elaborate meal for guests.
They didn’t even remember them :( I don’t feel like collecting “things” anymore.
Simplifying and less maintenance is preferred.
I don’t feel like ……
( You can add to this list )
P.S. I am not depressed. Just wondering if this is part
of “menopause” or what?
Love, Gaye

Red Yeast Rice ~ Follow-Up
Heidi, I was just reading the column about red yeast rice and cholesterol. I’ve
recently purchased some red yeast rice from Solaray (600 mg). Were you not aware
of this source, or were you basically deliberately saying it’s not a good
source? I’ve had high cholesterol (~300-400) for years and years. Five years on
a strict B diet has done nothing for it, so I keep trying other things (though
of course I will stay on my B diet too!). (And I never take drugs.) Anyway, I’m
going to have my level tested again in the next couple of days and then start
the Solaray red yeast rice and see what happens. I’d be interested in knowing,
though, if you think I should instead go through the source you mentioned.
Thanks! Kathy

Red Yeast Rice

Friday, October 20th, 2006

My Doctor suggested I might like to try “Red Yeast Rice” (as I was
opposed to taking a drug) to lower my cholesterol.
Is anyone familiar with the effectiveness and safety of this herb?
I have done a preliminary search but would appreciate hearing from
anyone with first hand knowledge.
Thomas, do you carry it and is it something an O should take?
TIA –Wanda

Coffee and caffeine

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

<< So…any ex-cappucino lovers that successfully gave it up?
Green tea does have a little caffeine in it but will not substitute for
coffee - especially if you are using espresso. If you have been having 2
cappucinos a day, taper off gradually or you will have headaches and feel
terrible from the caffeine withdrawal. May go to one cup a day for a while -
then cut that out!
