non-edibles
This topic has been discussed several times here, and we really do need
guidance from Dr. D. to know the correct answer. So far, our discussions
have been anecdotal, with some people experiencing no negative side effects
to the topical application of avoids, and others reporting adverse reactions.
I personally get a severely bad reaction, big red welts, anytime I apply an
avoid to my skin, such as witch hazel, eucalyptus oil or aloe vera. I even
read the ingredients on shampoos and cosmetics to stay away from bad stuff.
But lots of other people on this list have had no problem at all.
You should have seen me about 20 years ago, as a teenager (ok! 30 years
ago), when I tried a product called Sea Breeze. I no longer see this product
at the store, but at the time, it was an astringent marketed to teenagers,
and it’s active ingredient was witch hazel. You should have seen me, as soon
as I applied it, my face swelled up so I looked like The Elephant Man, and it
took 24 hours to go away!

There was an old post on this list talking about topical avoids such
as witch hazel and eucalyptus. Does anyone know for sure whether
these really are avoids? I’d like to get together as complete a list
as possible about avoids that might be found in skincare products.
Yes, I know corn and wheat are ridiculously pervasive in all kinds of
products, and aloe’s right up there. I react to the first two, not
sure about aloe. Whether or not D’Adamo says we should avoid topical
application of avoids, I’d like to try.
What else might not have been mentioned in the first ER4YT that’s
likely to be found in a skincare product?

I remember Dr.D mentioning that topical applications don’t pass thru the stomach
and therefore an not a lectin Issue. Of course, if you are allergic to things
you will want to avoid such.

I was wondering the same thing. He might change his mind later, after he looked
at it again, since all this is an ongoing search and ever evolving as more facts
are available.
