salad dressings

Monday, July 31st, 2006

For salad dressings, I buy whatever flavour I want and dilute it 1 part dressing
3 parts lemon juice . . . and I only use about 1 - 2 tablespoons for a whole
meal salad . . . that way I still get the flavour but the not so good stuff is
watered down so much that it doesn’t bother me.

Suggestions for cooking Kale

Monday, July 31st, 2006

I found this on another list. Thought it might be a good one especially for some
of the new people. I find Kale at some Super Wal-Marts in this area at least a
little more than half the year. Also, large leaves of greens including lettuce
are excellent for wrapping layers of food in.
This is what I do with it…
- Undo the bunch and fold each leaf together like a book.
- Slice off the thick center stem.
- Coarsely (sp) chop.
- Rinse well.
- Sizzle a couple of cloves of chopped garlic in olive oil.
- Add the kale to the hot oil, a handful at a time. Lower flame. Kale
will sputter (careful of the hot oil), as it still will be pretty wet
from the rinsing. As it wilts, keep adding more till it’s all in there.
- Put the lid on and let it simmer/steam for 10? 15? minutes. Check it
every five minutes to make sure it’s not burning.

eating out/ baking

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

Well I have been on the BTD for 3 days and I feel great. I ate rice-
a-roni last night and felt horrible afterwards. So from now on I am
sticking to just rice.
I had a couple questions for you. What do you order when you eat
out. I will be going out of town in a couple of weeks and not sure
what is okay when eating out since you don’t know what they cook
with. I was thinking about salads. But what kind of dressing do you
eat when eating out?
Also I went to the grocery store today and ours is both grocery
(normal foods) and health food store. They had tubinado sugar and
carob chips and spelt. Is is reasonable make cookings with these
ingredients? Is tubinado better than regular white sugar(since it is
a neutral). I know that carob is HB but are carob chips as well?
thanks

Correction~Lamb prices!

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

Well I was at Costco last night to stock up on all my essentials and
discovered that the boneless leg of lamb was actually only $2.99 a pound!
That is a deal when in the Supermarket its outrageous. Anyone know of a brand
of mustard with no vinegar….or salad dressing without vinegar? Im in the
far East Bay area (SF bay area) and dont have a close HFS…..I couldnt even
find carob chips at Raleys :( ………….

Flat Babylonian bread

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Any no-gluten or sprouted wheat/grain flat breads out there? I love
thin bread, it can get buttered & sauteed quick.
You’d think, EZEKIAL….a biblical name, would have a flat bread
recipe on themarket, eh?

Courtney’s conundrum

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

To me, you sound like you can’t take all that fat and protein like I
do. I’ve always loved the rich foods. According to the Metab.
Typing Diet guys you might be better on a 60(C) & 40(P&Fats) ratio.
Maybe you should emphasize proteins that are wimpy(the fishies & the
white meats) and then start getting significant chunks of your carbos
from the book. ……BLOOD TYPE compliant - veggies or grains. YOu
might handle ‘em better than I can. Don’t forcefeed yourself
anything…especially if you get nauseaus.(spelling, argh!)
EGGS…..whoa everybody, fried scrambled eggs….according to PROTEIN
POWER …..hikes up your OMEGA 6 fatty acids(the good ones are omega
3)…if you don’t like eggs, don’t eat ‘em. If you REALLY REALLY
want that DHA in eggs, just swallow it raw. ICK!! yeah, i
know..slimy. Anyways, Salmonella poisoning is RARE!!!….hell, you
can smell it in an egg anyways. and even if you are poisoned, it’s
not too hard to get over(even if you DON’T buy those probiotics.).

New to group, sort of….

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Hello all! I joined this group last August and loved it but then got
brainwashed by my cousin and did slim fast for a long time. I’m
finally coming back to my meat eating senses! :) And no I did not
lose any weight on slim fast. A little about me: 23 and about 45
pounds overweight, candida sufferer (moderate case caused by a high
carb diet through my teens [I was an Ornish follower]), tendency
toward depression and I have frequent digestive problems. I was
going to ask about burning in the stomach after eating a heavy
protein meal…but from reading from the archives I’ve found that
that sensation is only my body digesting properly. Hopefully that is
the case. I’ve found, since reducing carbs again, that I can eat
much much more that I could when I was eating carbs and protein
together. I am taking Yeast Fighters for the candida and
supplementing with Apple Cider Vinegar drinks. I also,
unfortunately, am on birth control at the moment which I know is
