AOL has ways to minimize it and I have eliminated popups which really drive
me crazy. Some spam is unavoidable just like junk mail. I’d rather get some
spam, though, than let some congressman decide what I can read. I just make
sure I don’t respond to it just like I NEVER buy anything from any stranger
calling me on the phone even a charity. I tell them that too. It keeps me
off of “lists” they sell to each other. My unsolicited calls have decreased
dramatically but it’s taken about 2 years.

Food from Zhong Guo

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Ryan, My favorite is Ceneral tso’ chicken. It is breaded I will have to
find with what, and cooked in sesame oil with hot peppers. Hot and sour
is another favorite and I guess no more crab cheese!

Way of Living, NOT a ‘diet’

Friday, April 14th, 2006

I just joined this group and am new to the diet. I just read a message
about eating out and started thinking-Chinese is my favorite. Are there
any Chinese dishes that stick to the diet? Seems like sizzling rice soup
would. Any others?

Ethnic food suggestions?

Friday, April 14th, 2006

What do you all think of sharing ideas about what different ethnic
foods work in our diet? I’m sure we have lots of different ethnic
origins in our group!
I’ll offer one . . . this is a common recipe found in East Indian
restaurants . . . also very easy to make . . . this is delicious
served with brown rice and a side veg. You can have it with
papadams, which are made with Chick Pea Flour.
Chicken Shorba . . .
Preperation Time 20 Minutes, 4 servings
Ingredients
500 gms of chicken bones
1 tblspn oil
100 gms of boneless chicken
½ tspn of cumin seeds
1 ltr water

Wow. Just a reflection but I thought it would be easier to stay compliant in
Europe. Figured they hadn’t contaminated their food supply with processed
food yet like we have. I’ve spent most of my overseas time in the Orient
where people were forced to serve foods that were fresher and there was less
fast food (at least fast food you could identify) and no processed food.
Sugar and sweets were expensive so they weren’t as available. I ate a lot of
protein but it was mostly fish and chicken with rice and vegetables. I
missed my beef. There weren’t many avoids there to tempt me. I was
compliant without even knowing about the diet. Of course, that was quite a
few years ago. Things may have changed by now.

acceptable avoids?

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Naggie, I think this is a very interesting question, and we should carefully
consider how to help you. Ryan and Max are correct, the more you either eat at
home, or take meals with you, the more you can control your diet. For instance,
I bring breakfast and lunch to work with me every day. The food choices
downtown are indeed shitty! Actually, breakfast is the worst. At least for
lunch, there are chicken caeser salads available (yeah, with out 1 oz of chicken
- not enough protein). I do make most of my dinners at home, and I plan my
weekly shopping in advance. HOWEVER, I also love to travel, and I love to go
out. I do find most places will offer choices I can work with. I may order
salad, a steak with a potato, and a glass of red wine. I do not eat the bread
they put on the table, and I do not eat the potato. Most nationalities will
have something available where you can eat just the meat and veg, maybe some
rice. If I find I am in a situation where the food choices will not be
acceptable, like travelling, or with a bunch of people who insist on going to
fast food, or to a vegetarian restaurant, or a social occasion where food is

Not so bad avoids??

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Has anyone found any avoids to be not so bad?? I follow this diet
about with 80% sticking to it completely. It would be hard to follow
it to the tee. Not because of willpower but more because of cost,
convenience and the fact that ‘Fat America’ wants us to be just like
them.
Sorry but we got shitty choices for diet here in America.

Preservatives??

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

How bad are these for you?? I eat foods on the diet like prunes and
other dried fruit that have preservatives. Is that really bad??

Fruit Energy Bars

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

Here’s another recipe for fruit bars. If we could only figure out a way to
add protein. Wonder if adding egg white protein powder would work?
