DNA Nutrition

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

O’s,, anyone see the WSJournal article (science journal) this week re:
nutrigenomics? Addresses possibilities that we’ll be able to customize our
diets to our dna needs (w/in next 10 yrs?) … it’s amazing — how they are
able to find now if a prescription to a drug can benefit you or have no
effect based on your DNA. Seems like the next evolvement in diet …
wouldn’t it be great to know if certain avoids for your blood type will
actually be ok w/ your DNA?! Has Dr. D been involved w/ this sort of
research — it’s fascinating! Leslie

Chromium–digression alert

Because people buy it just like people believe that they’re weak, sickly
bodies are not because of their diets. Just recently, didn’t they come out
in the news and say that they had “discovered” that the cholestral and fat
you eat does NOT clog your arteries? It passes through the body? But these
same people are still eating low fat low protein high carb (actually high
sugar) diets. Axel, they haven’t stopped selling sugar either even in the
HFS.
People are very quick to ask me how I can be improving when I have a
supposedly chronic illness (CHF). Hey, it’s been 4 years, I’m supposed to be
dead or getting sicker not them. I’m supposed to be adding medications not

Axel goes to the fair

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Axel, I know exactly what you mean! I’ve been to several street fairs lately,
and can’t believe the garbage that they are selling in huge, gloppy quantities.
Strap on the feedbags, folks! Yuk! It’s actually disgusting to look at, and the
smells seem very rancid, like a bad stench.
Speaking of places where you can’t find even a neutral, how about the movies?
Most theaters have rules that forbid patrons to bring their own food, so I have
to be sure I eat and drink all I want before I go in.
As we often say on this list, the most difficult times to remain compliant are
when we are travelling and eating out in public (at public venues or in other
people’s homes). Did you see the post from BeBetsy, who took her own food to
the folk festival, and had a great time? Also saved $$$$ for CD’s (excellent
choice in allocating the dollars, I agree!). That’s really the only way we can
go to these things. At least until public awareness goes to a much higher
level!

I can’t find green snap beans anywhere in the food list. Do they go by a
different name? Can anyone tell me if they are HB, N or A?
Thanks, Trish

sugar cravings and chromium?

Monday, March 13th, 2006

From: Wish
Subject: [ER4YT-O] sugar cravings and chromium?
cravings… is this an avoid?
I hope not. It helps insulin clear the sugar in the blood. Actually, it
helps with weight loss and allows insulin to do its job. I’ve heard that
zinc mimics the effects of insulin, too. Don’t know the specifics about
that.
With less chromium in the body, cravings can increase, sugar cravings cause
a higher demand for chromium, this is a bad cycle to be caught in,
obviously.
I could see chromium helping a person to clear the blood-sugar faster than
they are used to, if they are new to supplementing with chromium it could
make them hungier, sooner. But I’ve heard that chromium is good for settling
cravings, managing blood-sugar by assisting insulin. It’s been a long time
since I’ve been interested in chromium. I’ve been supplementing with

Sad Sunday

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

Well folks. Yesterday, on Sunday, I went to the Minnesota State Fair. I packed
two one liter bottles of my homemade re-mineralized water (my
Dr.-Batman-&-his-sidekick-buddy-Bob-Butts water of watercure fame), if you’ve
ever scene the skits on the old “Saturday Night Live” when Adam Sandler was in
the cast (you know, back in the “good days” of SNL) I would probably resemble
his character “Canteen Boy”. And, yes, the shared Jewishness does lend itself to
my being able to make a VERY Canteen Boy-ish face if I just deaden my eyes, draw
my mouth down and together in that suppressed expression and imitate the
gestures/facial expressions. I used to imitate that character a lot in
high-school, ’cause everyone watched SNL enough to know the skits, my tag line
was “Uh huh, whatever…” and often it would result in my being “rolled” by the
clique that played RPGs and talked about computers and didn’t play sports…
“rolling” consisted of being pushed down to the ground and being surrounded by
my fellow students and they would circle around me pointing their fingers at me
and chanting “Uh huh, whatever! Uh huh, whatever! Uh huh, whatever!”

Fun Weekend

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

I just spent two glorious days at a folk festival and was totally compliant!
There I was, surrounded by all that junk food and I didn’t crack. Didn’t
feel like I was missing anything either. On Saturday I took Spelt pretzels*,
what I call munch mix: hazelnuts, dried apples, raisins, almonds and walnuts,
2 plums, and a huge bottle of water. Because it was a great event, they were
serving buffalo burgers so I ordered one of those for lunch, hold the bun and
chips. The lady was great, said she felt guilty only giving me the patty,
threw in extra lettuce and tomato and deducted $1.00 from the price! Had a
buffalo hot dog for dinner, and she gave me lettuce and tomato for that too,
plus a fork. lol
Sunday, I decided to save my money to buy CD s of my favorite groups so I
brought all my own food. The rest of the Spelt pretzels, some of my yummy
elk jerky, a big bag of red pepper slices, baby carrots, wheat free tamari
almonds, dried apricots, grapes and watermelon and two big bottles of water.
Plenty of munchies to share, could nibble whenever I wanted too and was only
