there is hope, see today’s news

Double The Exercise, Greater Attention to Nutrition.
This new study has been released by the non-profit Institute of Medicine
(affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences). It is not all we would wish
for as ER adherents, yet it goes quite far in that direction.
Talks about “one size fits all” approach does not work, different people require
different ratios of carbo/fat/protein. The guidelines give ranges, not fixed
figures, and suggest individuals find where in that range they are able to keep
their weight normal and achieve good health. The study identifies sources of
sweeteners and sugars in packaged foods, and recommends cutting by 1/2 the daily
allowed added sugar intake. Also, the first dietary guidelines to add fiber to
the list of essentials: 38 grams per day. Have a look at the article today.
I have not looked at this yet, but more details on the study are available at

After our conversations this week, I am so relieved to see this!

One Response to “there is hope, see today’s news”

  1. Odis Johns Says:

I forwarded this news story to a certain “friend” who shall remain
“nameless.” This was his response (quite apt, I thought):
The Institute of Medicine… ha ha ha. Yeah: “Now we suggest exercising
    for
one full hour a day.” This panel of 21 scientists and physicians fails to
impress me. So it took 21 of these people to get together and deliberate
    and
come up with “exercise more”, “you can eat according to the amount of
exercise you get”? Ridiculous. Are people really so stupid they can’t
    figure
that out? How about: don’t eat like a big, fat hog if you aren’t doing
enough to justify it, or you will turn into one.”
    Recently the highly-prestigious, world-renowned scientist Dr. **** ******
******* announced to the excitement of the press that: “Don’t eat like a
big, fat hog if you aren’t engaging in enough exercise to justify it, or

    you
    will turn into one.”
And how about this: if Westerners are typically eating too much, and
suffering from it, and are eating too many carbs, and are suffering from
    it,
and aren’t eating enough protein (IMO), and are suffering from it,
    wouldn’t
it make sense, for the lazy, lethargic masses to simply cut down the
    carbs
(excessive calorie intake), increase the protein (satiety and health) and
increase the fats (healthy kind we are already deficient in)? That’s a
calorie reduction and healthier macronutrient ratio that addresses the
nutrient deficiencies all rolled up into one!
