Recipes for Nonnies

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Hi All, I am wanting to expand my very limiting diet and am wondering where to
find recipes that are OK for us nonnies re grains and beans possibly (have never
really eaten them but they might add variety to my diet) .
Is there still a Cook Right list? Also wondering if there is a good A nonnie
list? Or even an A list? My dh is getting more interested and I need ideas. It
is a little annoying when I plan for chicken for him and steak for me (mixed
grill, I call it) that he decides he will have half of my steak. I don’t mind so
much sharing the steak but he gets gasey on red meat and that worries me re what
damage it is doing inside him.
DH is not willing to comply with all the foods on the A nonnie list. So the
first to avoid are the Red Flags and then concentrate on Tier 1? or Tier 2
next???. Where does the General come in? For me, I just try to do them all.

Can I just rant for one minute about how hard it is to eat in this
city? Sorry, Axel. I am here for 4 days of business stuff and
people look like you are out of your mind when you order your burger
without a bun and no fries. Thank god, tomorrows dinner is at a
steakhouse. I know, I know the cows were fed grain and god knows
what else but it is better than starving. And what is the deal with
the breakfast places in the mouse maze that stop serving breakfast at
10:ooam?????

Go to sfgate.com, and click on story Rules To Live By: New Guidelines Call for
Double The Exercise, Greater Attention to Nutrition.
This new study has been released by the non-profit Institute of Medicine
(affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences). It is not all we would wish
for as ER adherents, yet it goes quite far in that direction.
Talks about “one size fits all” approach does not work, different people require
different ratios of carbo/fat/protein. The guidelines give ranges, not fixed
figures, and suggest individuals find where in that range they are able to keep
their weight normal and achieve good health. The study identifies sources of
sweeteners and sugars in packaged foods, and recommends cutting by 1/2 the daily
allowed added sugar intake. Also, the first dietary guidelines to add fiber to
the list of essentials: 38 grams per day. Have a look at the article today.
I have not looked at this yet, but more details on the study are available at
www.nationalacademies.org
After our conversations this week, I am so relieved to see this!

Fibroid Tumors

Monday, March 27th, 2006

I’m looking into fibroid tumor options, and would like to know if
anyone on this list is aware of a nutritional or herbal or ? way to
shrink uterine fibroid tumors.
I have a feeling my options are either hysterectomy or embolization,
but it doesn’t hurt to ask. FYI, I’m dealing with large tumors
(softball-sized) so that does limit my options.
I’ll tell ya, I can’t win for losing. For the longest time, I
resisted putting red meat back into my diet. After growing tired of
being so low on energy, I finally started eating red meat again. A
year later, I’ve got huge fibroids. And my doctor says, “Some
studies have shown that if you stop eating red meat, that could
decrease your symptoms.” AAAAHHHH!
Anyway, I would also appreciate private correspondence on this
subject. Perhaps there are some list members who have or have had
fibroids.

Delete Those Digests / Re: [ER4YT-O] Digest Number 1234

Dude, you have a high probability for insanity, this impression just from
checking out your site. Not saying that’s bad or anything. I remember your
(1st?) post, and mentioning me, I checked out your link and your photos of
toys ‘n all that. Sorry if I didn’t write to you then, I was not involved
on-line during that period, it was about 10 days after you posted that I
even read your post in this group.
I like it. You seem like a colorful guy. That’s awesome, stalking game show
contestants. I admire that, I do.
When you die (and I can almost guarantee that you will) and you transcend
your body and become a non-localized discarnate entity, I want you to find
me, float down into my brain/mind and deposit the enormous wealth of
information and wisdom you have accumulated over the years. I don’t need the
physical possesions, so don’t write me into your will, please. All I really
want is your knowledge, your experiental memories. Thanks.

Canker Sores

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Just curious but does anyone here suffer from canker sores? I’ve had
them from puberty and fruit seems to aggrevate them, as well as
chocolate, wheat, and all acidy foods. I love eating plums, and
neutral fruits, but now I’ve developed another crop of them on my
tongue and soft pallet. Should I avoid fruit completely?

Axel: High Priest of Biltong

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Axel, that was a great post! Scientifically sound, very articualate and
passionate, and invoking the power and majesty of the Biltong God. What vegan
would dare to oppose you?
I appreciate the extremely informative posts from you and from Ryan as well. I
re-read them a few times, and try to assimilate the information, to be better
prepared when challenged.

rantings and musings

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Ryan, Max and “Lambchop”, your posts were great! I had no idea, when I started
ER, that this would be such a political issue. I was just looking for a healthy
lifestyle. Now that I’ve found it, and it works, I am astounded to discover
such forces at work to not only dissuade me from continuing to live and eat
healthfully, but also to stifle any attmepts to discuss this great discovery
with others. As we have all observed, there are many entities that have a stake
in promoting current bad eating habits.
The group I can have an empathy for is the vegan/vegetarian camp. True, they
are almost “religious” in their fervor, and they are quite overbearing. I
understand that these people are truly respectful of animal life, and would
really like to live in a world where all life is equally valuable.
Unfortunately, a-wishin’ and a-hopin’ it were so, do not really make it so. And
as with all very idealistic philosophies, there is still great ugliness in
shoving that point of view down everyone’s throat, in this case literally. I
understand these people, as distinct from food companies and political lobbies,
