Eggs and Omega-3
PestoI’m eating eggs, mostly for breakfast, occasionally for snack or late
meal.
We have 3 choice of eggs at area stores:
(1) Your vanilla store egg
(2) Eggland eggs which are vegetarian fed, but not organic but claim diet
results in 100 mg of omega-3 per egg.
(3) Horizon Organic Eggs. I contacted them and they claim only 17mg of
omega-3 per egg.
I have been eating Eggland, but would also like organic. Plus, how good are
the omega-3’s in the Eggland brand?

Nope, no stores within a 100 miles.

My condo association would love a back yard full of hens
:).
And the local organic farms stuff is kind of of a bust. I’ve tried them, but
they just offer really low quality stuff, often stale, rotten or bad.
I’m going to talk to our local health food store (tiny market, only about
1000 square foot) into carrying eggs.

Hi Alex,
No offence taken at your post.lol. I agree with you about chickens not being
natural vegetarians…that is a fact! The problem is that I know of no
commercial farm in this country that feeds insects etc. to their poultry. (If
they did, they would feed the insects CORN!!! :-). Most often if they are fed
animal products at all it is the diseased, discarded pieces of OTHER CHICKENS!!
That is not natural for chickens, except for eggs, they do not naturally
practice cannibalism! They are usually the meals of their own natural
predators, so a few (maybe) scraps of fresh, raw chicken flesh does not count.
So, since I do not have access to REAL free-roaming chickens (my hubby had some
in Jamaica, West Indies, two weeks ago, as well as great grass-fed beef- lucky
him!) so I’ll settle for non-cannibal, cage-free, Omega-3 enhanced chicken eggs
as a substitute. I really do wish I could only consume foods that were in turn
fed only evolutionary species-specific foods….but we like in an industrial
age, so we do the best we can.

Actually, I agree with Axel the Great. I buy yard hen eggs at Sun
Harvest; I think the brand is Grandma’s Nest Eggs or something. On
the way to my boyfriend’s cabin is a little old lady with chickens
running all over the place. She sells white or brown eggs for $1
dozen. Goes back and collects them while you wait. They are the best.
Have feathers and dirt all over them when you open the carton.
Anyway, the freer the chicken, the better for you IMHO.

Thanks, Mary. I was going to check at the organic butcher shop in Dundas
also. He probably has them. Now that my son has moved out and I only have
to buy for myself I can afford to buy the expensive ones. I buy all of my
beef there.

Hi Ann,
I am in Dundas and Mary is in Burlington. We have met. I shop at the
organic butcher shop in Dundas. He grows and feeds his own beef and he sells
it in Dundas and also in Toronto.

Hi Ann,
That would be nice if we could do that. If timing permits maybe we could get
Mary to join us.
