Interesting Observation

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I originally started out on the BTD after a dietician advised me too. I used to
get an asthma like attack after every meal. Would cough very bad and had
difficulty in breathing. I also had constant sinus, heay! Within my first
three weeks, this was all gone.
When I cheated the first time (wheat and/or dairy), the same thing would happen
however and for about two years this was the case. During these two years, I
went through bad detox periods. I think Axel will remember. Now however, it
has all changed.
The only way I can explain it, is this: I think the amount of avoid lectins in
my body has dropped to an acceptable level after all the detoxing. If I cheat
now, I do get a bit of sinus, but it is nothing compared to what I used to have.
I don’t get the coughing spell at all anymore. If I cheat twice in a row
however, it starts to return. I find this very interesting.
Potatoes however is a different story. I cannot tolerate it at all. Now less
than ever! Had some over the weekend and I am positive that all my joints got

New to this!

I’m just learning about this diet and I have a few questions. My food lists
books says no dairy, but that Mozzarella is a neutral. Is Mozzarella not
maid from dairy?
Also, many of the recipies from RECIbase list cucumbers as neutral for O . .
. but the food lists says it is an avoid.
Is there some mistakes in the Food Lists that I should be aware of?
Thanks, Trish

Dear Renee, head for Atkins and tweak it

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Hi Renee,
Saw your plea about weight loss several posts back–have just been trying to
catch up after weeks away from site–so don’t know what other advice you
got…
November last year I was 112 pounds overweight–I wasn’t getting along too
well with ER because I thought I could get away with eating spelt rice etc
so stumbled onto Atkins site and have lost 1/3 of the weight I have to
lose…You will have to tweak the diet cutting out avoids that Atkins says
are alright because they aren’t for your blood type–you know that
already–Atkins says don’t count calories or fat BUT after a month my weight
stopped coming off and by that time I could tell when I had eaten too many
carbs or fat–I generally go with 1 tb spoonful of homemade dressing with
salad–using olive or flax oil, lemon juice, freshly ground coriander,
unrefined sea salt, pepper, parsley, basil, and a clove of garlic [add
anything else you want or what suits you]if I am stir frying or cooking meat

Thanks, Sarah. I am interested. Can I find coconut oil in my health food

Thanks.

This article link was posted to the low-carb list I am on, but it’s a pretty
good article explaining the pros of using coconut oil daily. I thought you
all would be interested.

dadamo research

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Actually, I think I might add at this point, Janette, and others, that I have
from time to time noticed ambiguity in D’Adamo’s research and the listings…
Sometimes, assumptions have been made (and I guess that’s just how it is when
you do things…) about which sort of item people are talking about…
So, for instance, pork is considered off limits for all, but that might be due
to assumptions of how the pigs have been raised, and might not cover the ground
of organically raised pigs…
I am sorry but I do not off hand remember any other examples other than the
coconut which Janette was recently considering in the light of just what was
D’Adamo evaluating when he did the research/report… At times, perhaps, it’s
the way the listings are vaguely described, so that it’s not clear just what is
being referred to…
So, all this picking and pecking, and turning stones over is worthwhile, because
the research ever needs completion!
Thanks for pointing that out, Janette!

coconut oil

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Jannette, Joe & everyone - As we already know, Dr D’s info is for us to read
and then decide on how to use it - guidelines for us. We always decide on what
we will or won’t do. I always like to say - listen to your body. If you feel
good eating or drinking whatever it is - then continue to do so. If the opposite
happens, then stop. Certainly ‘virgin’ anything should be superior to anything
processed. It will be interesting to note how you continue feeling over any
length of time as you use the coconut oil.
Another important aspect is that even with guidelines to follow - we are all
still different people.
Thanks for sharing….

instead of olive oil. In conclusion, while I do not doubt the veracity of Dr. D.
Adamo’s analysis, I do doubt if the oil analyzed was virgin coconut oil as

Posting Nuances

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Hi All,
I see that for the second time my post has been cut off in mid-paragraph.
Was the paragrph too long? What did I do wrong? I usually do not send long
posts, so I’m not too familiar with these problems.
TIA,
Jannette

coconut oil info - from Dr D

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Kathy,
I also read what D. Adamo said about coconut oil. While I thoroughly respect him
in every way, I’m truly suspect of the sources of information on coconut oil.
You see, in the 1940s etc., when research was done on this, the coconut oil
researched was “copra”, not “virgin” coconut oil. Copra is the form of coconut
oil that’s used for soaps, cosmetics and various other industrial uses. It is
extracted from the fruit at very high pressure and temperatures, which changes
the chemical composition of the oil. The chemical composition of copra is very
different from that of virgin coconut oil, and unfortunately, with the resultant
prejudice against saturated fats, very little analysis has been made in the
mainstream area of the composition of virgin coconut oil. It is interesting to
note, that the earliest research on coconut oil was done because the indigenous
communities that used this oil exhibited very little heart disease. As you can
imagine, it is not a stretch to figure out that someone who only had a wood fire
as a tool to extract the oil by boiling would most likely produce a totally
