Gravy Thickener
Just a tip I think some of you might find helpful. I accidentally discovered
that nut butter (any) makes for an excellent gravy thickener instead of gravy
powder (which almost always contain wheat). It gives a great nutty flavour, but
not overpowering.
I will put a recipe for my handy sauce in the database soon. It won’t have
measurements though - I am not good with that. I prefer cooking measuring with
my ‘hands and eyes’ if you know what I mean.
Love you all

Rice flour also makes a great thickener, just mix with water like normal
flour and tip into gravy.

Hi Hilda, This sounds like an interesting ingredient that does two
jobs at once. I’ve switched to spelt flour for most baking jobs but
haven’t tried it for thickening, yet. But I like your nut butter
idea. Just today, I found some almond nut butter in my supermarket
and it tastes pretty good. I’m all set to try your recipe.

Any compliant nut butter will thicken gravy nicely and also give a very pleasant
taste.
