Well, Amy, you’re not so different at all. I have been on this diet for over 3
years and have yet to drop those unwanted pounds. But then, I don’t keep track
of my portions too well either. Feeling better than ever though….

close to
Amy:
I’m a nonnie and I did lose weight (35 lbs) by just eating mostly HB
and neutrals. However, I did exercise intensely 4 times a week or more
for at least an hour, often 90 minutes. Without lots of good exercise
(which you must ease into if you’re not use to it), low calories is the
only other way.
For me (and everybody is different), it’s getting my body in a burn
mode. Lots of protein, little or no avoids, and lots of exercise puts
me in calorie burning mode and weight loss occurs. Lots of protien, a
few avoids and enough exercise (3 times a week 45 minutes) puts me into
a maintenance mode.
Don’t give up - just experiment & research. We’re all different and
change over time as well. You just need to find what works for you.

I think that weight loss is secondary with ER4YT. It’s more for regaining
health, I believe. I have never been able to lose much weight on this diet
unless I restricted the calories and increased the exercise and I’m still a
fatboy.

Hi Amy, I agree completely with Ryan. Thanks to Thomas for his
guidance I discovered that while I was eating only HB foods, I was
eating the wrong ratios. As soon as I started eating
protein/fat/carb ratio that Thomas advocated - I started dropping
weight.
In the beginning I got discouraged because although I felt really
terrific - no gas, less bloating, less PMS, and tons of energy I had
only lost about 13 pounds and then the weight losss simply stopped.
My goal was to lose 50 pounds. I reached 30 pounds total weight loss
(without much exercise) and the holidays hit me. I decided to eat
whatever I felt like eating. I pretty much stuck with the diet but I
ate more rice and had some avoids (mostly wheat based baked goods) -
I did not gain weight but I gained a couple of inches of bloat! I
knew for sure that I did not want to start wearing my “fat” pants
again so I have been trying to get compliant again.
My main problem has been getting enough protein. You really have to
plan at least a day ahead if you want to be successful at eating
enough protein - it is surprising how much protein an O requires.
Especially when you realize that most “meal plans” are skewed in the
opposite direction with respects the protein/carb ratio. Also, since
I had been a vegetarian for 8 years - I had a major readjustment to
make.
I have a natural menstral cycle and I noticed a complete change in my
cycle from the diet so it stands to reason that the pill will effect
results on the diet. So many of our problems stem from hormone flows
in our body and taking the pill completely changes those flows. Have
you read any of the studies about attraction/divorce rates/pill
usage? Very interesting! If I find a link will post it.
So now I am back to regulating/increasing my protein intake and I am
going to start training for a 12K race (this means I have to start
that long avoided exercise program) Actually I am not in bad shape,
I just do not follow a set program. I ski, walk a lot, and chase
after my kids.
Don’t give up Amy - just reevaluate what you are eating - use the
calorie guide that Thomas gave you and make sure you are eating at
least 45% of those calories as protein. (You may be shocked by how
much meat that is!)
We are all with you,
Colleen
