Dairy Free Rice Protein

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

Hi Osss:
I just tried that dairy free RICE Protein you all raved about.
- YUCK! Tastes like starch.
The WHEY protein tastes better - but is an AVOID, I believe . . . too bad.

anyone tried these sweet potato chips?

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

I have tried them and the chip itself is very good probably better quality
than Terras, but the flavor bland (I eat Terra Jalapeno regularly at lunch).
I tried self-spicing them, but did not work well plus very few chips per
bag.

walnuts ARE beneficial it seems :-)

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

Hi All,
Someone (Karen?) asked about walnuts before Christmas, because of a
discrepancy in the new encyclopedia. I found this today at Dr. D’s BB from
Heidi, who seems to be his moderator:

Just be careful of the whole “Serotonin” thing. It is a word promoted
highly by psychiatrists who try to push their harmful drugs on people.

Secretor!!!!

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

YES!!!!!!! I am a secretor!!!
Awesome!
I just got the cumbersome .pdf Acrobat file from NAP. It feels so good to know!
Though I don’t feel particularly bad after the coconut oil, perhaps this
explains my congestion… over the past few days I’ve been eating my latest
batch of homemade mayonaisse, I added about an ounce of coconut oil per cup of
mayo… made for a better texture, trying to get more sat. fats into my diet.
Now I’ll have to get it from butter! Palm is still considered neutral too…
No avocados? Oh well. I was hoping for this. I should say, I was suspecting I
was a nonnie, I think the nonnie refinement in the BTD is good, remembering what
Dr. D said in it’s application, even nonnies can try to be like us cool people,
the SECRETORS!!!! As long as they’re not feeling ill… but it sure feels good.
Ahhhhhhh. Now I’m wondering, is it possible the additional refinements in the
nonnie diet have a place for secretors whose health has been greatly reduced? I
don’t mean the foods whose status is changed from neutral or avoid status to

Revving up w/RHODIOLA

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

Hello Fellow Insomniac O’s,
There has been a fair bit of talk lately re lack of sleep. I myself have
had some trouble too, of recent but here is a possible solution.
A few years back, I went onto a liver cleansing diet, during the detox it
was common for people not to be able to sleep at night.
For this, we had to take the amino acid L-Ornithine to help us go to sleep.
It helped tremendously.
I must take this again myself!

cholesterol, depression, blood-fats

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

I remember when Lowell Barron (Ann) wrote:
“DH is slightly high on LDL but OK on the others - we are trying to modify that.

And also:
“I quite believe the connection between cholesterol and depression. I have
low/normal total cholesterol - very high HDL and very low LDL (both off the
scale) and very low triglycerides. I eat 3 eggs every day - from a farm lady -
and try to eat more fat to get/keep cholesterol up! Cholesterol is also
necessary for the making of various hormones. Last time mine was checked it was
on the low end of normal - an improvement. Low cholesterol is also connected to
cancer and a number of other problems. So we are all different.”
The stuff I’ve been reading about cholesterol and fats is very, very
interesting. And my new book: “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon and Mary
Enig, Ph.D. is in full support of cholesterol-rich foods and fats, especially
animal fats. It should be noted that much of the fats we ate before the 20th
