HELP OR ADVICE SOUGHT RE ESCALATING CHOLESTEROL L

Hi Group!
I have been on er4yt for about 16 months now and seem to feel much better
staying away from those “avoids”.
Sinus problems much relieved, energy better, etc.
Have NOT yet sent in my secretor test, which I “promise” to do this week.
My question is regarding cholesterol levels. Prior to going on er4yt mine
was NEVER above 145.
In September 2001 my level tested at 270!!!!!
My doc and I hoped it was that I had not fasted properly before and we redid
the test last month.
The level still is quite high…..245!!
Prior to er4yt I did not consume much red meat.

salt, exercised and I drink plenty of fluids…I have been on HRT since 1995
due to a premature menopause brought on by cystic ovaries.

This elevated cholesterol level SCARES me and I would love to learn if
others have had similar problems or if anyone has a suggestion on how to get
this under control.
I am afraid that I may be “forced” to go back to a more “regular” style of
eating due to this “C” issue.
My Blood Pressure is a-ok….almost a bit on the low side.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

    Merrill, can you give us an idea of what your diet is like? There are different
    ways to be compliant with ER This might help
    us understand what you can do to reduce your cholestrol.

    I have one, but have only used it for burgers so far. I’m thinking
    about using it for salmon, though. The burgers were great, and the
    fat did drip off the meat into the tray.
    I tend to stay toward lean meats. Sirloin and top round roasts are my
    favorite. Actually, rib-eye is my *favorite*, but it isn’t on the
    list of lean meats so I only indulge occasionally.

    I’d look at my food ratios. There seems to be a fine line paradox regarding
    cholesterol levels. If you eat a lot of carbs
    don’t eat much meat. If you eat a lot of meat you can’t eat a lot of carbs. And
    also make sure the meat that you are getting
    is lean regardless of which type of program you are on. So go and reexamine
    your ratios. Also make sure that you are getting
    enough antioxident type food in your diet. One thing if you are just going
    through menopause then that could be a factor (not
    so much the diet). The hormone estrogen tends to “help” women when younger and
    works against you as you get older. You might
    consider traditional HRT or an alternative such as mexican yams, etc. to see if
    that helps at all. (Also make sure that you
    are not getting transfats anywhere at all in your diet.). If you doctor is
    concerned he could try a therapy of Niacin which
    is known to help reduce cholesterol. Also when you do eat carbs try to ensure

    they are soluable fiber-type such as oatmeal
    (just an example).
    Hope you levels go down.

    How does one list lean vs non-lean beef? I know you can see
    marbeling, etc, but what cut’s are considered leaner? I usually buy
    boneless beef ribs (yum!), chuck or rump roasts, maybe a steak if
    it’s on sale (all “natural” beef).
