ER4YT-O Re: how much fat?–Thanks Axel! –an afte

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

I was beginning to grow a little frustrated when I read your first post on
December 15, Lisa of daisycullen2000! When you said “extreme” it really hit me.
I mean, given that we as a species in our evolution have been eating a diet
virtually devoid of grains and most other forms of concentrated carbohydrates
(look to the Hub in the links I recently compiled) for the last… oh, 2.5
million years or so! Gee, all this literature about the dangers of
carbohydrates… I mean, if any of the macronutrients is to be labeled the
“villain” then it simply must be carbs. Take a look around! The neolithic
revolution (look at www.beyondveg.com) is a blink of an eye, from an
evolutionary point of view. We have been eating whatever animal flesh we can
find and assorted low-carb veggies, insects, fruits in regions where available,
berries, tubers, roots, and of course nuts and seeds for millions of years, and
if you look at the later few stages of our primate’s evolutions (the line
leading up to homo sapiens sapiens) you will see that animal flesh, and
principally red-meat accounted for at times over half of the calories in the

HB Salad for Os/dilemma

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Hi Ossss:
Does anyone here make exclusively HB salads for O’s?
I’ve always used just Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, & cucumbers for salads.
But, tomatoes are neutral, cuckes are an AVOID, and Iceberg lettuce, I
believe is neutral. I can used Romaine lettuce instead, but I’m looking for
other HB ingredients. All I could come up with were adzuki beans, onions,
spinach, romaine and olive oil. I understand Dr. D’s new encyclopedia has
an expanded list of HBs. But I don’t have the book yet.
Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
Best wishes,
karenb

Axel - how much fat?/ESCALATING CHOLESTEROL L

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Wow, Thank you so much, Axel. I’ve begun reading, and I’m already
feeling much better about being an O and eating meat. Since the Eades
and D’Adamo were my only sources of info on this subject, I was
feeling unsure. I will keep reading!
Peace, Lisa

cholesterol/George Foreman/Arby’s

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Hi Everyone,
I am a bit nervous about this cholesterol issue after reading
Merrill’s post. I STILL have a hard time believing that eating red
meat is healthy after so many years of believing it is evil. My
husband and I plan on checking our cholesterol sometime in January. I
also plan on eating more game meat and fish. I just wish I could know
for sure! This diet is extreme. I wish it were more balanced–it
would feel safer to me.
Someone had asked about the George Foreman grill. Actually, my
husband and I just received it as a Christmas gift! I’ve used it
twice a day for the past 3 days since receiving it! I live in the
Seattle area, so grilling out in the rain was getting old. So far,
so good. Lamb burgers and salmon turned out well. Still tinkering
with steak (cooking it too much–not sure if it will cook to medium).
I also grilled sweet potatoes on it last night-yum! Fat does drip

question on potassium

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

I had low potassium a few years ago, caused by being a very physically active
person, and not drinking enough water. This gave me big spasms in my legs.
Didn’t hurt at all, but the “dancing legs” were kind of embarassing! Increased
my water intake and added potassium-rich foods to my diet. Problem went away in
three days.
I have a little handbook that lists the natural food source for each
vitamin/mineral. In the potassium section, it says that one should never take
potassium supplements, unless under strict supervision of an MD. The book
acknowledges that severe potassium depletion could result in shock, heart
stoppage, stroke, death, etc., but explains that is a slow process. It says
that potassium EXCESS could lead to swift and sudden death, with no warning
signs, and thus advised only seeking extra potassium from food, and not taking
supplements for it. The book also says you will not find a legal commercial
source for potassium, and that is why. It’s too dangerous.
Yet I have seen potassium supplements discussed on this list, so I gather people

reply to Jannette

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Hello Jannette,
yes, I will get in touch with you via your e-mail, so we can talk directly about
MS/diet issues. I am very interested in what you have
heard/learned/experienced.
Oh, yesterday I went to the opthamologist, this one says that the current eye
situation is not optic neuritis related. Says I have glaucome AND something is
wrong with the visual part of my brain. Ya know what? I think he’s a dope. If
I was that messed up, I’d know it! My regular opthamologist was busy, which is
why I saw this guy. Going back to Dr. Normal in a few weeks. Geez, it’s hard
enough staying healthy, without having to emotionally ward off such dangerous
misinformation! I’ll be in touch with you off-line this weekend. Take care.

IMPORTANT!! HELP! ESCALATING CHOLESTEROL LEVELS!!

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

It is recommended that, to control cholesterol, fat should be no more than 30%
of daily calorie, 10% should be from saturated
fat. Since you are following ER plan, I’m assuming that your fat intake is
around 20%.
approximate?
Some kinds of fats are better than others. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated
fats are better than saturated fats.
Monounsaturated fats is the kind found in olive oil. Polyunsaturated fats are
found in fish and some vegetable oils. Saturated
fat raises your blood cholesterol because it makes it hard for the body to clear
the cholesterol away. Saturated fat is found
in different amounts in almost all foods. Butter, some oils, meat, and poultry
fat contain a lot of saturated fat.
beef, do you choose only the leanest cuts? Eggs?
Butter? Olive oil? Can you eat more fish and less beef? What about using more

our viral swedish friend

Irene Nielson e-mailed me from the address: _irene-m@… with the
subject line “Re: [ER4YT-O] Re: Please read…..” There was NOTHING in the body
of the e-mail, and it had the aforementioned unopened attachment. I have never
opened an attachment from a complete stranger who doesn’t write any message in
the body. This was mailed to me on 11/29/01 at precisely 3:46 PM by my
computer’s time (midwest, central time…). Is that detailed enough? I don’t
have enough experience with computers… I constructed this e-mail from a reply
to Irene Nielson’s blank e-mail to me, if you get an attachment delete it. I
don’t seem to be having any problems, I didn’t open it, maybe I’ve been spared.
Whatever is going on… I’m scared.
P.S. it doesn’t matter if she SEEMS innocent, a competent person can easily
assume any persona they choose… I can see someone becoming paranoid. IF I were
a hacker it DOES make sense to assume an innocent, helpless language-challenged
person to garner sympathy and avoid suspicion. But then, perhaps a stalker would
also see fit to be a lurker too… or maybe just make enough of a show to avoid
