Update & Intro (Type O+, Secretor)

An UPDATE for ER4YT, & my LETTER OF INTRODUCTION to CR4YT
My name is Donna Carnall. I started Dr. D’s program the first part of June
2001. I am a Type O+, Secretor.
On July 21of this year I wrote the following letter to the ER4YT list, of
which I am a very delighted member. Some changes in my health & wellbeing
have come about since I learned of this new way of living, & my comments on
those changes are noted, where applicable, between triple asterisks (***)
below.
Here is that 21 July 2001 letter:
Hi Everyone,
I just received test results—I am officially a secretor. NOW WHAT???
I am in need of info & advice on what a TYPE O+ SECRETOR is supposed to eat
& do to accomplish good health? I am a 56yr old overweight female (120# to
lose). Since starting ER program about 1 1/2 months ago I have lost 15#.
Yea!!! It’s such an encouragement right now!

***I have now lost a total of 25#!!!***
My body has trouble using calcium efficiently. Because of this calcium
problem all of my joints are becoming arthritic. I’ve had one knee
replacement because of it, & am in urgent need of the other replaced. I
know my weight has greatly added to the knee problems,
but the arthritis is in all my other joints, as well. The xrays of my spine
is repulsive, & makes me worry about what problems are ahead for me in later
years.
***I’ve been having less pain, & am able to get around a bit better. But,
being a “sometimes” pessimist, I’m waiting for bad weather to hit to truly
test any change in the arthritis department. I’ll let you know.***
My ears ring & roar all the time, have for years. It never quits, just
different levels of loudness. Usually tolerable, but sometimes so bad it
about drives me crazy—DH says, “Too late, already there!” The noise
limits my hearing & understanding of what’s being
said, especially if there are other people talking, or there are other
noises present.
***Noise level (ringing & roaring) SEEMS lower. At least, I’m noticing it
less.***
I have sinus problems & several allergies (most soaps (for all uses),
shampoos, hairsprays, & sweet or spicy perfumes. Also: dust, mold, sulpha,
chlorine, pesticides, cleaning chemicals, solvents, etc.) The list gets
longer every year. Sometimes, I’ll get around
something, & it’s all I can do just to breathe. At times it’s been so bad
that my tongue swells & my throat closes. Other times, I have to sleep with
my pillow under my shoulders to make head fall back so it will keep my
airway open—this hasn’t happened to me for a while lately.
***No evident change here. I had an extremely bad bout with an allergy
related illness about 1 month ago. Almost hospitalized. To be totally
honest, stress could have been a really big part of it, though. I had lost
my job under trumped up reasons, no income for about 2 months, but worst of
all—the last of June my oldest sister was diagnosed with untreatable
luekemia, & is at this moment in the hospital hanging on to life by a
thread.***
I used to be extremely tired; no, not tired—fatigued. Fatigued to the
point that even breathing was an effort. I’d come home from work & fall
asleep in the chair—that was never typical of me. Then, a good friend of
mine (naturopath–spelling?) informed me of Dr. D’s program, as well as
watching my PH level (I’m usually very acidic), checking my iodine level, &
my temp & resting pulse (for possible thyroid problems). Since trying to
keep all these things at correct levels (”trying” is the keyword here) I
have more energy, & seem to be responding to vitamins, etc. better. I’m
still working on all this; looks like a lifetime thing to me.
***My energy level is kind of up & down—more up than down, though. I’ll
gladly accept “up & down” over being tired ALL the time. Actually, if I
keep a check on my ph level regularly, & drink plenty of water, my energy
level is great. Trouble is, I seem to have trouble remembering to do either
one on a regular basis. Dr. D’s program seems to be real easy for me to
stay on, no matter how I’m feeling, so that’s good. I really enjoy eating
this way, & there’s so many (new to me) foods out there that I’ve
“discovered” in the last 4 1/2 month!!!.***
BTW, two different doctors have tested me for thyroid problems, saying
there’s nothing wrong with my thyroid. But when I tested myself, by
checking my temp & pulse before getting out of bed every morning for a week
this is what I found: my temp avg=96.2 & my pulse avg=64.3. I’m told a
temp of under 97.3 is an indication of possible thyroid problems–my temp
was never that high. Concerning the iodine, the friend told me to paint a
filled-in circle of iodine (silver dollar size) onto my stomach, mark the
time, & check every hour or so to see what the absorption rate was. In less
than 1 1/2 hours it was totally gone. For everything combined he
recommended sea salt, kelp, raw thyroid tablets, lemon juice, lots of water
(I’m not good at this one), & Dr. D’s program. So, here I am!
***I can’t comment on this, because I haven’t checked my temp or iodine for
a couple of months. I need to do that, I guess!***
FYI: I have lost my job, & have no insurance–DH, DS (minor) & I live on his
disability, so I can’t afford very much extra expense going out. I have the
ER book, & have ordered the CR book. I guess I also need to order LR, too.
Anything else in the way of books,
literature, etc.?
***I now own & have read all three books. They are a revelation & a life
saver—literally!!!***
Please pardon me for sounding like I’m whining a bit, but I think the more
informed you are of my condition (physical & financial) the more you’ll be
able to help me.
***I’m not whining much anymore! “I’m singing in the rain”—thanks to Dr.
D & all of his supporters on the ER, LR, CR lists!!!***
The ER, LR, CR are wonderful sites, made up of wonderful people!!! Just
wish I’d known of Dr. D’adamo before now.
***This feeling hasn’t changed EXCEPT to get more so!!!***
Feeling better already,
***And better, & better, &………..***

    [car-brake screech sound effect]
Whoah. Do you know about calcium’s relationship to
magnesium? It’s pretty important. Dietary calcium
doesn’t make for utilizable calcium, there is no
guarantee that adding calcium to your diet will increase
your absorption of the needed calcium. Why? Because
calcium, like other minerals, needs a proper balance of
other important minerals in order to be absorbed and
used/stored properly. One of the problems with diary as
a source of calcium for example is that in all diary
products there is an unbalancing proportion of calcium
to magnesium. When there is too much calcium and not
enough other minerals (such as the macro-mineral
magnesium) the excess of calcium can actually prevent
you from properly utilizing the calcium in your diet.

Sound strange? Perhaps… The book “Protein Power”, a
book I highly recommend is a wonderful book about the
low-carbohydrate diet, geared for weight-loss of course
(they want to sell well) but is very relevent to O’s,
given that we do best on the low-carb paleoithic diet.
The first book, “PP” barely mentions calcium, but in the
next book “Protein Power Lifeplan” they write much more
on this important macro-mineral, they even go so far as
to say it is their #1 recommended mineral supplement. In
    a book I own “Dr. Heinerman’s Encyclopedia of Nature’s
Vitamins and Minerals” he recommends to get a calcium to
magnesium ratio of 1:2! That’s twice as much magnesium
than calcium! Why? Because in examining the coprolites
(fossilized feces) of ancient people’s (paleoithic
humans) it is consistently found that these original
people ate about twice as much magnesium as calcium.
Screw whatever you’ve heard about excess protein leading
to osteoperosis etc. etc… the issue is much more
complex than that! Magnesium! Sodium! And a few other
factors are very important for the proper utilization of
calcium and the bone matrix. You could learn a lot more
at www.beyondveg.com about this and many other things…
that site just blows my paleoithic “O” mind. Oh, by the
way, the stupid U.S. government or someone (don’t
remember exactly who but it was government related) has
increased the recommended levels of magnesium to MATCH
calcium… it used to be cal. to mag. 2:1, now it’s
being changed to 1:1… next thing you know they’ll
actually acknowledge that paleoithic humans had the
strongest, fullest most durable skeletons in the history
of humankind… and finally up the recommended levels to
cal. to mag. 1:2. Mark my words! It was in the neolithic
revolution that our brain-size and skeletons and height
    began to deteriorate. How depressing.
Is this called tinnitus or rhinnitus (sp?)? I don’t
    know… isn’t this also pre-diabetic symptom of
diabetes? Also, are you indulging in wheat, corn, or
diary (I know wheat can cause strange phenomena in my
    head)?
Sea salt is good. Kelp: pill? plant? I highly recommend
you start learning to cook/like/eat sea vegetables. They
are commonly found at oriental grocers. Also at HFS but
there they are VERY over-priced. Drink you water dammit!
Drink lots of water. If you’re overweight you don’t need
to be eating much. You can easily feast off your own
flesh (lucky you!). Someone’s been inquiring into
fasting… I’ve sure done it (overdone it too!). You can
get plenty of support for that here and elsewhere on the
internet. Think of all the money you’d be saving by
cannabilizing your own tissues instead of paying for
food! Whoopee! Riches undreamed are waiting to be yours
(via DH insurance…)!!! Lemon juice. Excellent.
All three books huh? So you think you’re special?!? Do
ya think you’re better than me? Is that it? Watch your
step lady, ’cause if those snobs in the LR4YT group can
boot people off for not being familiar with their high
falutin’ advanced selves… then maybe we can boot you
off for having more than we do… if you aggravate our
    ire!
    Good to hear.
    P.S. eat your sea vegetables!
