EVENING SNACKING
Who says you have to have snacks anyway? Sometimes they are just
habit. Do something else! Take a walk, do some exercise. Don’t look
at TV with all thoese commercials showing food. DON’T look at the
Food Channel. Drink water! Eat some protein. Wean yourself away
from snacks.
You can do it! I did and the Lord sure knows I was a carboholic! I
loved cookies and milk! It was quick and easy and oh so good. Now I
just focus on something else.

REPLY TO CURIOUS NEWBIE ABOUT DIABETES

Saturday, September 25th, 2004

I was diagnosed with diabetes June of 1997. I was and had been 242
pounds for quite some time. I am 5 ‘ 8″ tall and considered large
boned. I was off and on with the ER plan. The most weight I lost
previously on ER was 37 pounds in 6 months. I combined ER with low
carb/high protein and have kept it up for 7 ½ months. I have lost 58
pounds. I have gone from a size 24 blouse or dress to a size 16
Misses. My pant size went from a size 20W to a 12 Misses.
I was taken off my diabetic medication in May and am feeling better
than ever. My cholesterol has gone from 212 to 170. I eat a lot of
beef too. My diet doesn’t vary much. Meat and salad, salad and meat,
an occasional egg and LOTS of water. When I feel hungry I drink more
water and eat more beef!
Hey, did you know Marilyn Monroe was a size 14? I’m on my way!

drinking and eating

Saturday, September 25th, 2004

The problem with drinking liquids, ANY liquids with your
solid food is that the liquid, being a liquid dilutes
the gastric digestive juices. When digestive juices are
diluted they are less effective, so, drinking liquid
with your solid food impairs your ability to digest that
solid food. Soups are a little different, the liquid in
soup is full of nutrients, those nutrients do stimulate
the stomach to secrete digestive juices, but let’s face
it, liquids dilute liquids, that’s just how it is. It is
best to drink your water at least a half hour before
eating for optimum digestion. If you do drink with your
meal, make it water, and not more than a small cup (4
ounces). Of course, your body is your own…
BTW this advice is beyond the scope of the BTD, Dr.
D’Adamo’s advice on this subject would just be common

enzymes

Friday, September 24th, 2004

That was a terrific post on enzymes….I found that after several months
on the diet, all that red meat started to give me “tummy aches”. When I
upped my enzyme intake, especially protease and the one for carbs, it
really helped. I also noticed that my waistline is looking better (as
in, I can suck in my stomach and it actually makes a difference!!!) When
I do eat an avoid, I just increase my enzymes and then I don’t feel as
miserable later.

The Power of Enzymes

Thursday, September 23rd, 2004

Yeah, I’ve tried a number of all-around digestive enzyme
supplements. The kind designed to be eaten with the
enzymatically challenging food… don’t know whether
it’s best before or after the food cause the bottles
never say but I’m guessing that it would be best to down
the enzymes capsules BEFORE the enzymatically dead food.
This way the enzyme pill is moved into the duodenum with
the first of the food, releasing its contents and
assisting with digestion when food first leaves the
stomach. No point in taking an enzyme pill with your
grapefruit, apple, live salad, live nut/seed smoothie
(;), etc. because they are enzymatically living foods.
Diary is an exception; I don’t care how much live
cultures are in my raw goat cheeses or yogurts (when I
have them), I MUST take a milk digestant enzyme pill

Evening Snacking

Does anyone else have some suggestions?????? I appreciate your help!
Fruit is the first thing that comes to mind. An apple, sliced with a bit of
almond butter would be very filling. Omit the almond butter or use just a
little and it would be healthy for you also. Some fats are necessary and
well tolerated by type O’s.
Pineapple, cherries and mangos are beneficial for us. I have had
concentrated
cherry juice in some seltzer water as a refreshing and beneficial drink.
Dr. D recommends that unless there is a weight problem, we can enjoy a
handful of nuts on a regular basis. If you are really hungry, some good B
complex would help. And of course lots of good protein during the rest of
the day.
