Beneficial vs Avoids - what list?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

I’ve read here that certain things are avoids, then someone else will
turn around and claim they are HB. (aha! an acronym I know!) Anyway,
what list should we use? I’m using a food list for 0s that I got on a
web site based on the ER4YT book. I have just ordered the LR4YT book,
and hope to receive it in a few days. Is there a good web site that I
can refer to in the mean time?
BTW, I find corn and wheat the most difficult to “give up”, HOWEVER,
have also noticed that I’m not as lazy since I started “avoiding”
them. I had a very productive weekend, compared to many in the past.
Will it show up that quickly? I’ve been trying to do this for about a
week and a half. Not fully, but as much as possible. Thank goodness I
like figs, prunes, plums, pumpkin seeds, black cherry juice, etc. Not
sure if I’ll ever get back to eating red meat, though.

Husband of Type O

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

I appended the following to the A list to get feedback from A’s. My
wife is O+. I have attached my note, so that you can see the diet we
have been following and the positive impact for my wife. I am
interested in specific experiences that people might share which
pertain to how to accomodate her needs as well as mine. I know where
to find the lists but we need to know what is important and what is
not. If we compromise, what is likely to have a big impact… By
the way, my wife does have elevated blood pressure a hyperthyroid
problem.

***** Note to ER4YT-A List ************************
I am new the list. As a background, let me say that I am A- and made
a radical change to my diet about 3 years ago to switch to primarily
vegetarian. The diet had a large component of raw vegetables, not
much fat and a heavy emphasis on whole foods. The result was a

detoxing

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

hi everyone, my name is karen.I’ve been introduced to this way of
eating two months ago.Boy, I must say ,what a whole new world for
me.I did not eat meat, one of the main reasons being i could not
tolerate the taste..(guess what i am?)..:)…yup an o!!..I am very
passioned by this way of eating,I can see where all my life eating
avoid foods have done to me,extra weight gain, unmanageable asthma, for
the down side,I am having unbelievable gas and recently my
significant other has said my bad is not so sweet smelling,(there I
said it,lol)..Is it the change in my eating?…specifically the
meat..could it be the post nasal drip? Could anyone share if they
have gone thru this and what natural remedies are out there…thanks
so much!!! take care! karen

Detox Error / Hiatal Hernia

Monday, August 30th, 2004

<<Might look into the possibility of hiatal hernia.
I actually developed reflux after being on the diet for a couple of years
and after having an endoscopy, they found I had a hiatal hernia. (An
endoscopy is where they put a thin tube with a camera down your throat to
get a good look at your esophagus and stomach opening.)
A hiatal hernia is when the seal between your esophagus and stomach does not
totally close allowing acid from your stomach to escape. There are many
causes for this, not all diet related and therefore it cannot always be
cured by diet. Mine is too small to operate on so I take Prilosec, an acid
reducing medication. (Others I know with larger hiatal hernias have had
surgery to correct theirs and have been very happy with the results.)
Good luck!

salt or seaweed

Monday, August 30th, 2004

I found a neat item at Sun Harvest Farms today. It’s dried,
granulated “organic” seaweed (dulse or kelp) to use as seasoning.
Might be a good alternative to table salt and get the seaweed in
there. It was with the other Oriental foods.

I like the Tao He Cleanse by Nature’s Sunshine. It works very well,
especially with an ideal diet like you are following now. Good Luck.

Detox Error

Sunday, August 29th, 2004

I have to apologise for causing so much confusion on the grapefruit thing.
I haven’t got my book - lent it out!!!. Sorry to all for that.
I am going through one of those natural detox periods. At least I think
that is what is happening here. I suddenly have a bit of a post nasal drip,
my stomach feels uneasy, I don’t feel like eating anything and I am
exhausted to put it mildly. I have the nausea of a pregnant woman!! When I
see food, I have to duck and go somewhere else. By the way, I cannot be
pregnant, had a hist long time ago already.
I have decided to just listen to my body and stopped eating. I am only
taking water as I don’t want to run the doctor who will just give me a heap
of rubbish anyway. I must say, the area directly under my ribs, sort of in
the hollow, are very sensitive. It feels sore really. Is this normal?
As for the aromatherapy question, let’s rephrase that: if some herbal
substance is an avoid, would the topically applied essential oil of that
herb be an avoid too?

Detox Treatment

Sunday, August 29th, 2004

Grapefruit is a strong detox treatment but obviously Type Os can’t have
that. What about an aromatherapy treatment where the essential oil of
grapefruit is topically applied? Would that be a no no too?

Decaffeinated Green Tea

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

Hello fellow O’s!
I haven’t asked a question in awhile, but here’s one for you all.
Does decaffeinated green tea possess the same health benefits as regular
green tea? I’ve stopped drinking regular green tea since I was diagnosed as
hypo-thyroid and have heard that caffeine worsens this condition.
Thanks!

no colds!

Friday, August 27th, 2004

I too have always had colds… if someone w/ a cold breathed on me/was in
the same room,, I was sure to catch it.. any change of temp also took it’s
toll on me! Now been on the diet for more than a yr. and rarely get a cold!
and my 4 yr. old rarely gets sick (colds or stomach problems). wondering if
I really needed to have tonsils out when in 1st grade or if my diet was the
cause. All my stomach problems (IBS/whatever) have completely disappeared !
now, just slight sinus trouble and that could be do to the mold in Seattle!
Love to all, Leslie
