No Success
Hi, I am so jealous of all your success stories! I have read the book
and have been on the diet since September. I have gained weight and
my sinus problems aren’t that much better. I have had 11 major
operations on my back and neck and for the past 2 years I wasn’t
allowed to do any exercises (hope to start in December). I am 1.48
meters tall and have gained from 51 to 54 kilo’s in the past 2 months. I
really try hard. But because of the book I try to eat more regularly,
otherwise I feel very weak. Every morning I make a banana and soy
milk smoothie and I try to eat either fish or red meat every day. I have
also inceased my broccoli and spinach to at least 5 times a week. I
used to eat once a day. I do have energy, but I feel terribly obese.
Please help!!

Hi Annelene,
Go back and check to see what you are eating with what. Sometimes food
combining will help you start to loose weight with this diet. Are you sure
you are not getting avoids in your diet by trusting labels on foods that
might say “natural flavors” or “other ingredients” or “other spices”. Don’t
trust any label that doesn’t list each and every ingredient. One that
doesn’t “hide” avoids under an all encompassing category. It sounds like you
need to go cold turkey with the grains. Try to avoid all grains for a month,
then gradually add one at a time back to see how it affects you. I know that
if I eat anything made with wheat, dairy, corn, white potato, tofu or soy
bean product(s), I sure can tell it by the way I start to feel. Sinus begins
to plug up and ache along with all my joints. My skin breaks out into a
rash, and I become sluggish. If you are interested in the food combining
list, I can email it to you. Don’t give up, it sometimes takes a while for
this thing to take hold of your system. As far as your height and weight
goes, please put that into feet and inches and pounds for us Americans who
haven’t had to learn the metric system as of date and don’t have a
conversion ruler handy. Banana’s are a quite fattening fruit. Try highly
beneficial fruits for your smoothies. At meals for breakfast, say, 2 eggs
scrambled with some turkey bacon and a papaya or stewed prunes. Eat them in
this order: stewed prunes or prune juice or pineapple juice; 2 eggs with
chopped up turkey bacon inside on a bed of romaine lettuce. That is an
example menu if you aren’t used to switching dinner for breakfast. I switch
dinner for breakfast and mine will read: Broiled free range steak; romaine
lettuce and other HB leaves and 30 minutes later, a glass of pineapple
juice. LUNCH: Fresh steamed ahi (tuna) fish salad (hard cooked eggs, chopped
celery and Maui onion; 3 tablespoons Best Foods Mayonnaise; ground fresh
Hawaiian salt; peppercorns ground by my mill) rolled up in romaine lettuce
leaves; 30 minutes later, a glass of black cherry juice/seltzer water to
foam. That is to say, 2 ounces black cherry juice in a 12 ounce glass and
pour seltzer water over it until it foams up into a full glass of beverage.
DINNER: 2 Buckwheat Belgium waffles with mashed dark frozen cherries, turkey
bacon, and 30 minutes later, a glass of pineapple juice. That is a sample
day’s menu for me. If I want a snack in between, I eat my own mixture of
dried organic cherries/walnuts/dried prunes/dried figs/almonds. I NEVER get
tired of these foods because not only do I know that they are doing my body
good, but I really like the taste of these things. Just keep hacking away at
the diet and after a while it will become so easy to do. Good luck. . .

Annelene, welcome to the club! I too struggle with obesity. The best my life
has been was when I followed the O guidelines (didn’t know about O back then)
and went to Overeaters Anonymous meetings weekly. If you haven’t tried the 12
steps, what have you got to lose? GOod luck and don’t give up.

Interesting to note your snacks, CB. I too have found myself faithfully
snacking on the same combination, although I also eat almonds and haven’t
craved a candy bar for years! When I do eat one, just because, I think, THAT
wasn’t very tasty! Isn’t it wonderful how the right foods can become the
foods we love most?
