Introducing myself
Good morning! I’m new to the list and wanted to introduce myself. I’m
Julie, 39, Columbus Ohio, single parent to 9 year old son Jordan, both of us
in the process of starting ER4YT-O.
Any tips, ideas, suggestions to get us started?
Thanks!

Hi Julie,
I am not very active on this list, but wanted to say Welcome! I grew
up in Columbus, and I have lived in Licking County for almost 15
years.
I don’t really have any suggestions for ER4YT, I have a hard time
sticking to it sometimes myself. The rest of my family isn’t on it,
so it’s difficult when we have food in the house that I shouldn’t
eat.
If it’s just you and your son, then that should help to just get rid
of all the avoids and then you won’t be tempted…at home anyway.
What part of Columbus are you from? I grew up on the Far East side,
so if you went down the street one way you’d be in Whitehall and if
you went another way you’d be in Reynoldsburg. Up until 4 years ago,
I worked in Reynoldsburg at the State Fire Marshal’s office. My
husband still works for the City of Columbus. My mom & dad still
live
in the same house where I grew up.
Good luck with the diet!!

HI Julie,
Welcome to THE list! There are quite a lot of well informed people on this
list, so if you are stuck with a problem, just ask. . . and someone will
answer you. As for having any suggestions about this diet to newbies, just
memorize your avoid lists, and stick to that. When you are preparing meals
for the first six months stay 70% highly beneficial and 30$ neutral foods
per meal, then switch to 80% HB and 20% N. Then after a year you can go
totally HB with an occasional neutral and you will get very healthy. I also
do the food combining with the foods on the ER4YT lists. Good Luck.

Welcome Julie
A great way of life to follow.
Tip: you might develop some of the following symptoms - nausea ( ginger tea will
help - fresh ginger seeped in boiling water.
Back aches due to the parisites that reside in the liver and kidneys, depression
and various other discomforts
DO NOT GIVE UP this is proof that your body is adjusting to your new way of
eating and that you are ridding your body of toxins.
Good luck

Tracie, I live in Gahanna and I work on the outside edge of downtown
Columbus. I’ve lived somewhere on the far East side of Columbus for 20
years now, first in Bexley, then Reynoldsburg, and now Gahanna since 1985.
Are you in Pataskala? Are there many other people on this list from our
area?
Now for the technical part of my post…does anybody have suggestions on
what to feed a growing 9 year old boy? We’re always on the run with his
sporting events, school, my school (I just started back to college after 20
years!) and it seems we’re never home anymore. I want to make a grocery
list this week and meals that I can spend all day Sunday cooking so that we
can just reheat on the run. I’m making so many changes in his diet that he
can’t keep up with me, and while he’s okay (so far) with most of them, he’s
not happy about the loss of his beloved McDonald’s!

Hi Cheryl, thanks for the welcome. I’ll probably have tons of questions so
please bear with me!
I need (want?) to lose 50 lbs., and it seems nothing I do works. I’ve been
doing the Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet for the past year, and I’ve gained 20
lbs! Of course I also quit smoking a year ago so I’m sure that has
something to do with the weight gain, but regardless, I certainly haven’t
lost a pound.
In reading the ER4YT book I realized that the staples in my CAD diet are the
exact things I should be avoiding! (Which certainly could explain my
inability to lose weight.) My 9 year old is also about 15 lbs overweight
for his height and age, and I want to get us both healthy and more in the
weight range we should be.
I guess my question is this: is this way of eating helpful in weight loss
in addition to the health benefit? I am turning 40 in March (oy vey, that
hurts!) and I already know my family is throwing a huge party for me, and I
plan on making my entrance in a cute little black dress…so I need a diet
plan that is going to work!

Julie,
I am a little further than Pataskala, north of Granville in the
country. If you’ve ever heard of Timbuk Tree Farm (cut your own
Christmas tree), we’re really close to it. We have a little more
than
4 acres and we raise chickens and just got our first goats a couple
of
months ago.
The excitement around here the past two days has been all about the
hen that has been sitting on some eggs! They were due to hatch
yesterday. We had a total of 10 eggs under her, and 3 appeared to
have attempted to get out of the shell but died somewhere along the
line. Just 1 chick has hatched/survived and the remaining 6 eggs
appear to be duds. I know this is off topic, but I just had to share
this excitement!
About your 9 yr old son, I have a 9yr old daughter and I haven’t
tried
to convert her to this diet. I can’t imagine getting her to go along
with it. I also have a 6 yr old son who has expressed interest in
being on my diet with me. He’s fine with it until I remind him that
it means no peanut butter or ketchup. My husband is anti-healthy
anything. He smokes, he eats potato chips and a coke daily with his
lunch. If I didn’t buy these things, he would just buy them. So I
can’t even get all the avoids out of my house.
One thing I have done that involved my 9 yr old was cutting out
dairy.
She wasn’t happy about it, but I just quit buying it. We
homeschool,
so her only source of food is here at home. It helps to find
delicious alternatives. Both of my kids enjoy the Rice Dream ice
cream and they drink enriched rice milk. I have also ordered dairy
free chocolate chips and made spelt chocolate chip cookies (and my
husband even ate these!).
I belong to a food co-op and I’m able to order food once a month. I
order spelt flour and pasta, acceptable cereals and even spelt
pretzels. There’s probably a co-op near you, you may be able to find
out if you call FORC at 614-861-2446 or toll free 888-936-9648.
Good Luck!

HI Julie,
You said: I guess my question is this: is this way of eating helpful in
weight loss in addition to the health benefit?
* * * * * * * I have lost 47 pounds to date and still going on the down
slide. It is GREAT for weight loss especially if you do the food combining
method along with this way of eating. I also cook on the weekends and do the
vacuum sealing for the freezer so that I won’t get too hungry and cheat with
something fast and quick (like MacDonald’s). . . Good Luck to you.

Tracie, I know exactly where you are! I’m familiar with the area. I do
have my son drinking Rice Dream now, he actually likes it! I’m slowly
making changes in our diet, however I’m not sure what his blood type is yet
so I’m more cutting back on sugar for him than actually putting him on
ER4YT-O.
Do you have the recipe for spelt chocolate chip cookies? I know we’d love
that!
Also is there any type of archives here that I can read previous digests? I
noticed the current thread on candida yeast and am wondering about that….

Julie,
Whenever I’m making any cookies, I just substitute the spelt flour
for
the white flour. Sometimes I’ve found I have to use more spelt
flour.
Last weekend I made yeast donuts with spelt flour, my husband ate
them too.
Just try some of your favorite recipes, that’s all I do. I also
substitute butter for shortening and rice milk for cow’s milk. It
all
seems to work out just fine.
I still don’t know what I’m going to take to the pot luck on Friday.
I need to figure it out quickly, yikes!
As far as reading the archives, if you go to the website you can read
all the previous messages. I actually don’t have any of the messages
sent to my e-mail, I read all them online so I don’t have to worry
about deleting old stuff and getting behind.
