Digest Number 329
Hi group! your vegetable soup sounds good Lynn. I was at Trader Joe’s
this weekend and also came across the “good” breads! bought the spelt
($2.99) and it’s not bad –made an almond butter + honey sandwich w/ it for
my little guy’s lunch this morning!
Re: acidiphilus … I am definitely missing my homemade yogurt that I’m
procrastinating on throwing out from the refrig… is the Ethical Nutrients
version a good substitute?… I am/was convinced that yogurt was beneficial
battling yeast issues…
Re: Tums: is this best way to get that extra calcium we need? someone told
me 2 a day… any input on this?
Re: Carob: hmm Lynn on the fresh roasted! I don’t think I particularly like
carob either,,, are there any non dairy, good O versions of chocolate?!
Thanks again all,,, what an interesting group, I learn something everyday.
my husband is thinking I’m going a little overboard on the subject … but
that’s ok, I have a strong belief it’s the right way to go ! Feels right.
Have a fulfilling day! Leslie

there are soy yogurts that are okay for this diet - I imagine that they have the
active cultures, etc. that make yogurt so “beneficial”. Or you can take
acidolphus (sp?) by itself (pill/powder).

I’ve made yogurt from soy milk. You could probably also use rice milk
or a combination of the two. I made it the same way as the regular milk
yogurt, just substituted soy milk for regular milk. I used a starter
from a regular milk batch, then used a starter from the soy batch every
time after that. As for taste, it was good mixed into chocolate
popsicles - even better than regular fudgesicles! You could experiment
for different tastes.

I’ve heard that the calcium in Tums is the type that does something that
causes you to not have enough calcium in the long run. Also, I’ve heard
that whatever it does to keep you from having heartburn makes you have
more heartburn in the long run. Maybe someone else here knows the
reason. I just made a mental note not to take them. I’ve noticed that
people who take them usually have giant bottles of them.

I don’t really like carob either, even though it is listed as HB! It’s
ok, but… Maybe if we don’t think of it as a chocolate substitute and
try to use it based on its own merit! Whatever that may be! Maybe
someone has some good recipes!
Ghiredelli (sp?) makes a dark chocolate that does not have any O avoids.
There are other companies I’ve seen mentioned here that also make good
O-ok chocolate.

I want to thank this list for making me aware of Peppermint Tea and
how well it combats nausea. I finally had a chance this morning to
go get some (I settled on Traditional Medicinals Organic Peppermint.)
One of the nutritionists at my local health food store also
recommended enteric-coated peppermint capsules. (The enteric coating
allows the capsules to get past the stomach without breaking down -
that way they can reach the colon intact.) It’s supposed to help
with gas buildup. Now, if I could just figure out how to stop
belching like a truck driver…
I also wanted to ask the list about Malabsorption Syndrome. Is this
something that’s fairly common, or is it rare, or what? The reason I
ask is that I have been doing battle with edema for the past three
years, and nothing seems to be helping. Could it be my body is
protein starved, even though I’m eating lots of it? If anyone has
this ailment, would you mind sharing?
Thanks,
Lynn

Someone mentioned “Master Cleanse” to me in a private e-mail (I
thought I had saved it, but apparently not) and I wanted to find out
more about this.
I want to do a colon/liver/gallbladder cleanse, and I’m hoping
someone can point me to a Web site with info.
I do know that there’s something called ABC Aerobic Bulk Cleanser for
the colon, and milk thistle for the liver, and of course the yummy
combo of olive oil and lemon juice for the gallbladder. I am
wondering if anyone has done something different.

Lynn I did send some info last night but with my problems posting to
this list from home it would appear to not have got here. I will try
and resend tonight or from college here in the morning.
