Digest Number 155

Saturday, March 29th, 2003

Hi yall,
I am new to ER4T diet and to the board. I would love any advice or opinion
to my problem. Okay, I am an O+ and I deal with depression. I have been
taking St John’s Wort which has worked wonderfully. I read in the book that
St John’s Wort is an Avoid herb.
I would be so grateful if someone could explain to me if this will create
bad reaction or affect my immune system. I cant tell you how much it’s
helped me but part of depression is feeling a since of doom or something bad
will happen to you, Know I worry that by taking the St John’s Wort that I am
harming my body.
I would like to know more and if someone could suggest an alternative to St
Johns wort. Ive heard about SamE but not sure about it.
thank,

I think we all have to remember that nothing is OK for everyone in all
circumstances at all times. That is why this list is so wonderful. Many of
us have shared our experiences with the sometimes subtle feelings that are
going on. This helps each one of us. I am at the point where I either print
out the email or at least take notes. We all have to be responsible for
being aware of our bodies. As we clean up the messes that we have been
carrying around for so many years, we will become more
sensitive to how we are feeling. I am much more aware of what bothers my
digestion now than I was even 6 months ago. Yes, we can normally tolerate
beef. But some of us are more sensitive to cholesterol maybe until we get
our thyroid running well again. Those of you who are in your twenties and
thirties can rejoice. You have been exposed to the truth at a much younger

Hi, I am new to this list and the ER4YT diet. After seeing my friend who lost
weight on this diet I was inspired to pick up my copy again..I started it monday
by cutting out wheat and drinking juice and water instead of mt. dew ( which I
know is bad) and I don’t feel so bloated and I can eat more food without feeling
like I am about to throw up.So far the scale says that I am gaining instead of
losing .What did not help was my husband saying he cut out mt. dews for 2 days
and lost 5 pounds.I know its metabolism but its discouraging! I AM glad that I
found this list because I can use all the support that I can get.I need to lose
around 30 pounds and any advice and tips are greatly appriciated..Thanks, Vicki

Buttery Spread

Friday, March 28th, 2003

Take Control and Benecol and new cholesterol lowering spreads which have
gotten a lot of press lately. I think they are available in most
supermarkets in the margarin section. Olio was developed by Chrysler
chairman Lee Iacocca and it is mostly olive oil. I used that way before
the other two earned all the brouhaha and my body likes it. Amazingly, with
all Iacocca’s money, he hasn’t gotten any researchers to study his spread
and show that it lowers cholesterol. I’ve had a harder time finding that in
stores lately. The last time I had a hard time it was because the product’s
packaging was changed. It was first sold in bars like sticks of butter in a
plastic tub. Then it changed to a cup like the soft margarine or whipped
butter. Anyway, if I locate it in a new package, I’ll let the list know.
Take Control and Benecol mention an amount per day beyond which the
cholesterol lowering ability doesn’t work. I just bought Take Control
yesterday since I couldn’t find Olio. Haven’t tried it yet.

Mistake on the Tuna Tapenade

Thursday, March 27th, 2003

Oops! The resipe called for low fat mayonnaise. I wrote
2 tablespoons Take Control or Olivio or low fat mayo
How about just 2 tablespoons soy or almond milk? It won’t have the
creaminess. Suggestions? You could try one of those things they use in
bread making such as xanthum gum and soy milk/almond milk.
The original recipe came from Prevention’s Cooking for Good Health, Rodale
Press, 1994.

Steamed Veggie Dishes

Thursday, March 27th, 2003

These are some yummy veggie dishes with almost 0 fat for those who are
trying to lose their extra extra.
Turnips and Carrots with Sesame Seeds
Wash and scrub the carrot and turnip. Slice on a diagonal. Then slice the
ovals in strips. Unless they are organic, wash the sesame seeds, maybe 2
tablespoonsfull, by putting them in a tea strainer and running water over
them. Tap them out into a small frying pan with no oil in it. Heat them up
until they are dry and smell a little nutty (like me). Set them aside. Put
the sliced carrot and turnip in a saucepan with water and a pinch (yes, a
pinch) of salt. Simmer until soft. Serve sprinkled with roasted sesame
seeds.
