Steamed Veggie Dishes

These are some yummy veggie dishes with almost 0 fat for those who are
trying to lose their extra extra.
Turnips and Carrots with Sesame Seeds
Wash and scrub the carrot and turnip. Slice on a diagonal. Then slice the
ovals in strips. Unless they are organic, wash the sesame seeds, maybe 2
tablespoonsfull, by putting them in a tea strainer and running water over
them. Tap them out into a small frying pan with no oil in it. Heat them up
until they are dry and smell a little nutty (like me). Set them aside. Put
the sliced carrot and turnip in a saucepan with water and a pinch (yes, a
pinch) of salt. Simmer until soft. Serve sprinkled with roasted sesame
seeds.

Sweet Mashed Parsnips
parsnip with a hearty fragrance
yellow onion

Scrub the parsnip and cut as above. In other words, slice on the diagonal
and then cut the ovals in strips. Dice the onion. Place in saucpan with a
pinch of salt and simmer until the parsnip is soft. Mash like mashed
potatoes. Believe it or not, it is sweet

Sweet Baked Onion
One nice looking onion with skin in tact for each person eating the meal
Cut the top and bottom of the onion off. Stand it in a baking dish with its
partners. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes to an hour. The onions carmelize and
become really yummy.

Baked Winter Squash
Butternut, sweet mama, kabocha or turban squash
Wash it. Cut it in half. Scoop out the seeds. Place the squash face down on
a baking dish with 1/2 cup of water. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Buying tip for butternut squash: look for squash with at least one end
showing no green around the stem.
Buying tip for sweet mama, kaboha or turban squash: buy one that feels light
for its size. It will be extra sweet.
